Bingo. And they weren't built on speaking out or protesting. Colin Kapernick did that. Didn't work out so well for him, did it? They were built on the back of the NBA and Title IX. Very few people were asking for the WNBA. It would have gone under a long time ago if not for being subsidized by the NBA. The WNBA has been nothing more than a charity funded by the NBA. Call it whatever you want but the WNBA become somewhat palatable when Caitlin Clark came on the scene. She was/is a young, passionate, and very talented player that made women's basketball somewhat of a joy to watch. Sophie Cunningham was smart enough to realize that if she aligned herself with CC the results would favor her immensely. No one knew who she was until she did that.

This all boils down to jealously from the "old guard" of the WNBA. They hate Clark and Cunningham because they didn't fall in line and the lesbo thugs of the WNBA would rather go back to obscurity and have men play in their league than have their sport elevated to new heights by the likes of Clark and Cunningham.

For "built on speaking out" there sure haven't been many listeners since the leagues founding in the late 90's.

I don't think it's about "falling in line." I think it's just pure jealousy. CC hit the scene in the NCAA tournament as she wrapped up college when the media folks knew she was heading to the draft. Fairly attractive, non-woke, straight, and white. It wasn't about her being tolerant or falling in line. The outcry against her is pure bitterness and racism. Its wasn't about "not falling in line." To my knowledge, at the onset she never spoke against them, she just wasn't like them. That was all it took. The WNBA establishment of mediocracy hated that she was different (and maybe refreshingly so) and popular.

Sports journalism is to sports what body positivity is to community theater.

The WNBA is where the NBA was in the 70s, lawless, out of control and very low viewership. In the 80s, the NBA got Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. It wasn't a hero vs villain, just two well respected great players with contrasting styles. The Celtics vs Lakers became must watch tv. Go to YouTube and search former players talking about Larry Bird. Call him the great white hope, but he backed it up on the court and players respect and admire him. The media tried to recreate that with Clark and Reese, the problem is that Reese is no Magic Johnson. Throw in the usual pettiness and jealousy of women, and you get what you have now.

I used to loooove watching espn. Would have it on 36 hours a day. Now i only watch it when i need to - Aggie football - or for a good game. Otherwise, I find espn unwatchable. I'll watch SEC Network for that 'sports news show' fix.

I think a lot of the rough play is that there just isn't enough talent in the league. There are some girls that are legitimately good. The problem is teams have to fill out rosters. When you're not that good and you come up against someone who is, you tend to foul a lot more, and some people resort to hard fouls to try to "send a message." The message they are sending is they can't guard. For whatever reason, the WNBA looks away at this and seems to think those are good plays. It's weird because the NBA doesn't allow it anymore, but the WNBA does. I think if they take away the hard fouls, your would see the really good players shine, and in turn, inspire other girls to up their ball handling, shooting, passing, etc.

I think people are buying franchises for the tax benefits. Pay $500 million, write off $450 million (90%) over the next 15 years in depreciation. If you have a billion of personal taxable income coming in over 15 years, being able to write off 45% of that is nice.
