The teams valuation is like art (or other sports teams)...not only is the value in the eyes of who wants to pay what, but in the end its a means to boost the net wealth of the owners.
Same with the mega yachts.

Are they actually worth that much? Someone appraising seems to think so.
In the end what do they do, if mens sports ball it may provide a passive income via TV and other revenue.
If women's sports ball, operational losses can be tax write offs for the corp/entity "owning" the franchise but the actual owner of said corp can claim net worth of X$.

I don't see any world where true valuation is 11-13x annual revenue. Assuming they're using the word revenue correctly, then that's only one side of the ledger.

I've maintained that's the quickest way to end this.

Trot out a bunch of guys out of college who didnt make the nba. Let them define as female and destroy the wnba teams.

Same story for college. Get a bunch of dudes and put them on a girls team and go destroy everyone by 50 and make the ncaa define man/woman.

Pro sports league team owners are able to write off 90% of the purchase price over 15 years, that's the whole value of the franchise.

If you're in a position where you're going to earn a billion over the next 15 years, being able to write off $450 million of that is incredibly attractive, hence these 'valuations'.

i had the same thought. looked up the cowboys for fun...annual rev is 1.2Bn and "google market value" is 13Bn...so, 10+x. not as far off as i would have thought. but that's all funny math, anyway.

And that annual revenue is misleading because 30% of revenue goes back to the league. So the valuation is more like 17-18x revenue when that's accounted for. It's obviously done to pump up the valuation and make regular people and suckers believe that the league is successful.

And they are requiring an expansion team to pay in $250,000,000 to even consider adding them to the league. It's a Ponzi scheme and the original investors want their money back.

In this case, revenue does not matter profit matters. The teams are losing tons of money, even after the new media rights deal
