I played basketball A LOT - from grade school until high school, then college rec leagues and pickup games at East Kyle all through college, and then corporate leagues as well as the local pickup game on Saturday morning with all the other dads for years and years. I didn't stop playing until I was about 45 and my knees were shot.
And yes, invariably in those pickup games there would be a woman who would play sometimes. Or even an occasional rec league game. And nobody minded and some of them were pretty good.
But let me tell you how it went when a woman played. You put your worst defender on her and that guy knew he was to back off on her. Let her shoot, let her dribble, don't swat her **** or steal the ball from her. Just play soft defense and stay in front of her. We took it easy on her and just did not let her beat you to the rim. You never bodied up on them or muscled them. You never harassed them or got in their face to even close out those passing lanes. And you didn't even take the opportunity to leave her unguarded and double someone else because that was not sportsmanlike to the other 4 guys playing with her. The only time you might play any tough defense was if it came down to the end and you needed it to win. Then she might get her **** blocked or the ball stripped or stuffed at the rim. She wasn't making a shot when it mattered.
So thats what this coach played against and she probably thought she hung with the boys because for 95% of any game she did what she wanted and maybe hit some shots and never had a turnover until the end maybe. So she thought she did good.
Yeah. Because they let you. Any team of 5 half decent guys could usually crush a team of 4 guys and girl if they wanted to (unless the other 4 were just significantly more talented than your 5). It would literally almost be a 5 on 4 game if they wanted to make it that way. Because you could slack off her double anyone else good or in position and still recover to guard her if she popped open or cut to the rim and stop her 90% of the time. It was not even a close matchup really with average pickup level guys and any girl even if they played competitively.
Everyone who played pickup basketball has probably seen this. And I'm sure I don't remember every game but I cannot ever remember being beaten by a team with a girl, nor winning when we had the girl. One person made that much difference.
Now imagine that advantage extended to say 2 or 3 biological males on a squad of 5. They would dominate and it would not be close. Upper high school level or average college level biological male players would crush anyone in that league.
If they actually did openly invite trans to play it would kill the league. Everyone would scramble for the few players breaking the barrier, dominate the league and everyone else would then protest. Then a flood of trans would come in and take over and there would not be a single biological female left - maybe they could make a rule that they had to keep ONE per team.
Screw them. Let 'em do it. Watch it destroy the league it would be hysterical. Since I really don't care (have never watched a WNBA game - but I have seen "highlights").
