Another example of how some people just don't get it:

https://highposthoops.com/sophie-cunninghams-trans-comments-violate-the-ws-no-space-for-hate-policy

Quote:

Cunningham insisted she is "here to extend love," but almost in the same breath added that "love is truth, being honest." She then said, "And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

Cunningham's comments, at best, indicate a lack of understanding about the health and lives of transgender girls and women, and they also support an ideology that is considered transphobic by many allies and members of the LGBTQ+ community. They also show little understanding of the true nature of biology, an enormously complex scienceeven the question of what sex means biologically is confounding.

For example, the phrase "biological sex" may be a reference to reproductive organs, but could also be a reference to hormones or chromosomes, or perhaps secondary sex characteristics (physical aspects that tend to show up during puberty, but that have little impact on reproduction). When people say gender is a construct, this is the general idea they are circlinghow we've conceptualized sex and gender is largely based on science that few of us really understand, and instead, we have constructed definitions and gender presentations that tend to fit pretty neatly within our own worldviews to try to make sense of something that is larger than ourselves.

So that brings us back to Cunningham. She can claim to love any community or group of people she wishes, but her actual words offer insight into how far that "love" really goes. Because, at worst, her comments could reflect a genuine bigotry against transgender people, even if it's a bigotry due to a lack of understanding. The phrase "biological men" or "biological women" in this context is often used in a way that is derogatory and, frankly, meanand Cunningham offered no clarification on what context she's learned the phrase, why she continues to use it, and how she uses it when she's not being interviewed by a major news organization.

Consider the author:

Quote:

Stephanie Kaloi is one of the Site Experts for High Post Hoops and is thoroughly obsessed with the WNBA, NCAA women's basketball, and women's European basketball. In addition to FanSided, you can find her basketball writing at The Guardian, SB Nation, and Us Weekly, and you can often find her reporting from many (many!) basketball games throughout the year in the US and in Europe. When she's not writing, you can find her feeding and attempting to befriend wild animals and baking bread (really).

She thinks she's the real life Snow White.

My theory:

The WNBA doesn't actually want to succeed.

If they did, if crowds started showing up, tickets were sold, merchandise bought, TV contracts signed then suddenly, the NBA has no more reason to keep subsidizing you. Suddenly being profitable matter and you have to actually start managing this league and perform or else you'll lose your job.

But instead, they can just keep mismanaging the league and driving away anyone who might make the league popular so that it remains an eternal welfare child that still pays its executives multi million dollar salaries to run a league that doesn't have to provide a product people want or turn a profit

I can honestly say I have not watched a second of WNBA clips before Clark/Cunningham.

I would not pay to see a game and you probably couldn't pay me to see a game.

But now I watch clips of Clark/Cunningham. I now also watch clips of people making fun of Angel Reese.

If they started to succeed they'd lose their subsidy and actually have to do their jobs. Right now, what do they even do as the leaders of a league that doesn't have to make money or provide a product people want but still get to make millions of dollars for?

I don't know a damn thing about Women's Basketball but I could make 3 million a year to do nothing but lose money and not ever care if we never break even

This writer would greatly simplify her life and thoughts if she would come to realize there is no such thing as "transgender girls and women" and nobody can be transphobic because trans doesn't exist. Everything comes into focus once you are made aware of this.

From torrids post -

Take the time to read the garbage above. These people are mental. Their kids are absolutely screwed. I imagine most "trans" kids grew up in a household with a parent(likely mom) like this one.

Too bad the player's union is throwing cold water on her moment which is also the league's moment. They say the viral image cannot be licensed by their business partners.

According to journalist Darren Rovell, the union reportedly called it "derogatory."

In what world is a prolonged, silent point derogatory? Maybe if she added a crotch grab at the end, one could make that argument. But this was cheeky and antagonistic.

Actually, ending with a crotch grab would have been epic.

There is truth to that along with the fact that the league office is full of book smart but low IQ white guilt idiots. They don't have a spine, they don't know how to problem solve or have accountability. They just cower to the black lesbians and the brain rot media. Corporate America is full of these people.

I went to a houston comets game back around '97. whole family outing since my sisters team got free tickets. I just remember my dad made fun of lesbians the whole time.

There were maybe 500 people scattered thoughout the stands at The Summit, and it was mostly pairs of women sitting together.

A quick search said average attendance started around 12,000, but dropped to 6,500 by the last season.

A quick search:

Quote:

The WNBA measures and reports official game attendance based on the number of tickets distributed, rather than the actual number of physical bodies passing through the turnstiles. [1, 2]

You always need to read the fine print on how Attendance is measured.

Tickets Sold
Turnstile count
Tickets Distributed

If the WNBA was getting 10K+ paid fans to actually attend game, the players would be getting paid more. Giving away 10K tickets for free and then having 500 show up doesn't create the economics necessary.

Not to mention the lack of parking and concession revenue.

Attendance is up. Tickets sold is up. Price per ticket is higher. More turnstile. More concessions.
