When you sell 10,000 tickets to one game and 250 to the rest on the schedule, the prices for that one game dominate the average.

Yeah, if you refer back to the post about how they count attendance, the majority of tickets are given away, and they count distribution as attendance.

The key word here is 'sold' WNBA games, not attended WNBA games. If the majority of games have a small number of tickets sold, but the Fever's two visits sellout (assuming two of your three games against them are at home) over 10k seats, that is going to skew your average badly. If you're averaging 250 sold per game over 20 home games, and then 10k sold for the other two, you have 25k tickets sold for the season, with 80% opf them coming from two games.

That's probably how they get a $173 ticket price average.

Whether they like it or not, Sophie Cunningham is the second-most famous player in the WNBA right now. She isn't going anywhere.

I assume she loves playing basketball and that's why she plays. Her paycheck for playing is probably less than she could earn in other careers, though her notariety has definitely boosted her NIL values. On the other hand, if she dies on that hill and can't play in the WNBA, she has far larger earning potential in many other endeavors. Sophie is the quintessence of the saying, "There's a lot more to her than just a pretty face."

I think her 2026 contract is $665,000 (exclusive of any endorsement $). If the WNBA didn't exist I doubt she would get anywhere close to that as a 29 year old former college basketball star from Missouri with a bachelor's degree in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management.

That being said, if she got into coaching women's college basketball, there is big money to be made there.
