lots of disgusting people out there sadly
Might be disgusting, but having personally been screwed over by UHC, I really can't muster up much empathy.

They are hands down the most scummy of the insurance companies. I've had them multiple times over the last 2.5 decades and they are always the ones who make it the most difficult to actually get care using your insurance.

I've had to do the multiple layers of escalations to try and get procedures approved with no dice even though their policy/plan docs said coverage was included and multiple docs on my care team said it was medically necessary.

I doubt it does, but I hope this causes the other insurance CEOs to become a bit more introspective about their drive to maximize profits over patient care
"I doubt it does, but I hope this causes the other insurance CEOs to become a bit more introspective about their drive to maximize profits over patient care"

It won't. Their entire existence is to make money for the shareholders. I'll never forget hearing Steve Hemsley get on town hall meetings at UHG and preach earnings. They didn't care about anyone at all.

Stephen J. Hemsley (born 1952) is chair of the board and former chief executive officer of UnitedHealth Group Inc.
If anything these companies will just invest in more security for their CEOs and execs. Although when your customers are murdering your CEOs for the service you are providing, perhaps there is a bit of a problem with the service?....

The answer is simple. Eliminate health insurance. You pay cash when you are treated and let the free market dictate pricing.

It will be cheaper for everyone and save us trillions in tax revenue.

No. Just nationalize it like every other first world country. No insurance, no private equity, no profit.
Tell me you've never spoke to ANYONE from a country with nationalized health care without telling me.

My employer has offices in both Houston, Ontario, & Alberta. I cross the border to work on projects regularly. The Canadians come to the US regularly. EVERY one of them would love to have the system we have.

One short Google search, 'healthcare canada wait times"
I spent 30 seconds looking
https://www.cihi.ca/en/wait-times-for-priority-procedures-in-canada-2024
Quote:

  • Between April and September 2023, fewer patients received a hip or knee replacement within the recommended 6 months compared with the same period in 2019
  • Cataract surgery wait times have returned to pre-pandemic levels, with 70% of patients treated within the recommended 112 days in 2023
  • Median wait times were 2 to 4 days longer for breast, bladder, colorectal and lung cancer surgeries in 2023 than in 2019, and 11 days longer for prostate cancer surgery
  • Between April and September 2023, median wait times were 7 days longer for MRI scans and 4 days longer for CT scans compared with the same period in 2019.

Do you want to wait 6 months for a hip replacement?
Do you want to wait 4 months for cataract surgery?

THIS IS AFTER YOU GET TO SEE A DR THAT DETERMINES YOU NEED THE PROCEDURE AND QUALIFY FOR IT!

Now, come back and defend your post. Or is this your typical click-by troll job? (First and only post in 4 days)

One system causes longer wait the other system causes death.

Not for those that are paying for it. We can avoid the delay and death. And we are the ones actually paying for everything so …

So EVERYONE except the rich get crappy healthcare instead of just a small percentage. Great idea.

Who pays for that? Me, like now?

So I still pay a crap ton in taxes and now have slower or worse care while the proletariat gets identical care for nothing? F that! Healthcare is not a right.

How about birth? Is that a right?

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was a father, Midwesterner and well-liked executive. On Wednesday, he was killed in broad daylight in Manhattan and quickly became a meme and source of ridicule on social media.

His killer is still on the loose.

"Thoughts and deductibles to the family. Unfortunately my condolences are out-of-network." "Sympathy denied. Greed is considered a pre existing condition."

Some were sickened by the comments: "The seemingly widespread online celebration of the assassination of the UnitedHealthcare CEO makes me feel despair for humanity. I get that healthcare is broken, but these reactions are truly sick."

For some, it's easy to see why people who don't personally know Thompson might scoff at this tragedy. People are living out tragedies on a daily basis, on top of not being able to pay their healthcare bills whether they're insured or not.

"The public is feeling very unheard, uncared for and unseen in our plights," says Gina Moffa, licensed clinical social worker and author of "Moving On Doesn't Mean Letting Go." "We live in a world where it seems the rich get richer on the backs of others, and it's hard to garner empathy when we feel so (deprioritized) in society."

And what will keep a nationalized system from degenerating into crony capitalism where coverage is decided by pharma companies' campaign donations? Or worse, killing off the opposition's voters? (E.g. Trump deciding to defend AIDS treatment because it disproportionately affects Democrats.)

The federal government needs to prove itself trustworthy before we give it that power.

The US can't even afford Medicare and Medicaid. There is no way to add trillions of spending on top of that. We are broke.

Does anybody think this was a professional hit by a hitman beyond the news? I mean if he left stuff behind it's either sloppy as can be or beyond top level. I don't see top level being a possibility given his malfunction and he didn't go right up to his head and shoot then put a couple in the chest.

He shot him in the calf from 10 feet away, no way it was a professional hit.

Also, why do it in the middle of NYC ?

Do it in his suburb or when he is at a restaurant in the burbs.

The shooting location is what is gonna get the perp caught.

He might have wanted to make it as public as possible for the shock effect, but it was a terrible idea
if he wanted to get away with it.

Really, how did he get tracked to a hostel? Surveillance cams from Central Park? And what's with this Starbucks guy? I don't see a resemblance at all.

The reporting on this story is strange...

Or they looked at a scan or photo of the "ID" that the hostel provided and determined that it was just a fake. ID number didn't line up with any actually issued ID, etc

If that's the case, the psyop backfired. The murder went viral, and inevitably it may be open season on other high profile targets by copycats.

From https://www.yahoo.com/news/murdered-insurance-ceo-had-deployed-175638581.html
Quote:

Last November, the estates of two former UHC patients filed suit in Minnesota alleging that the insurer used an AI algorithm to deny and override claims to elderly patients that had been approved by their doctors.

The algorithm in question, known as nH Predict, allegedly had a 90 percent error rate and according to the families of the two deceased men who filed the suit, UHC knew it.

...

As The American Prospect so aptly put it, "only about 50 million customers of America's reigning medical monopoly might have a motive to exact revenge upon the UnitedHealthcare CEO."

I know an elderly man with a Medicare Advantage plan from UHC who has been sitting in a big city hospital for a while waiting to be transferred to a swing bed much nearer to home. UHC refuses to authorize the transfer.

I would think that a swing bed in a rural hospital would be cheaper than a regular bed at a big city hospital.

If we're going to ponder psy-ops...I do actually wonder how much of the online sentiment on places like Texags/Tiger Droppings/Twitter/Reddit etc. is monitored in the immediate wake of such events to guage just how harsh the general public sentiment is against the elite. Even most of us who believe it was wrong are like "meh, these insurance companies are soulless and have f***ed over me/my wife/my child/my mother etc etc".

If they have the means, the truly elite and diabolical would be fools not to do this type of data collection just to always keep a finger on the pulse, and maneuver accordingly.
