Pretty impressive they had a brain surgeon doctor available 20 years later.

I'm not saying it would be easy, but every person vaccinated helps. Prioritize at first. Protect those who protect the vaccine. Medical personnel. Teach others how to produce it and vaccinate them. Disseminate the knowledge as best you can. Then soldiers. High transmission areas. Young people. Once you have groups that can withstand scratches and bites, then they can start wiping out zombies easier.Prosperdick said:If you could administer it on a mass scale...so how does that happen in this dystopian landscape? That's my point. Marlene said herself she barely made it to the hospital alive...so they get a batch of vaccine, how do they plan on getting out safely? These are the questions Joel should have been asking on why they wanted to kill Ellie for just a chance at a cure.double aught said:It would probably take years, but a vaccine would turn the tide eventually.Prosperdick said:Also, lets say it works and they've got a vaccine so if you get bit you don't turn. My only two complaints about the last episode - 1. significant and 2. unimportant
1. It seemed like the doctor skipped all the prelim tests/trials and went right to brain surgery as the only possible option for a cure. At least allude to him having done everything he could to avoid it. It wouldn't have added much time to the episode.
2. When Joel shot the woman firefly in the parking garage, the pistol should have been hidden beneath Ellie's hospital gown. Show this when he shoots her the first time.
For that reason I'm solidly on team Joel for this. Watching him execute the doctor in cold blood like that was satisfying. But of course, I wonder how things will fare for them going forward and if Ellie's immunity will ever be put to good use.
Now, on to cryogenically freeze myself until S2 is released.
Also, how do you distribute said vaccine? There's no media to alert the population at large, no CVS on every corner waiting to administer it, no infrastructure at all. Finally lets say you tackle those items, how are you going to mass produce it?
Joel was right to do what he did.
Also how deeply sad would it be for mankind if they DID get a cure and the first batch gets overrun by a zombie hoard and it's destroyed. Talk about a kick in the junk.

Jordan Jent, head mushroom farmer of the DallasFort Worth area's Texas Fungus wholesaler, has a totally not-disturbing take on whether a Cordyceps-born pandemic could occur.
"In my opinion, yes," he says. "Not right now. Give it ten, twenty years and it could be." Jent's studies of the mushroom kingdom have made him a believer in "mycelium intelligence," the consciouslike communication between fungi and the neighboring environment. Cordyceps, as he tells it, has figured out where, how high, and what direction is best to harness the wind to carry its spores.

Can finally post this alternate ending to the original game….goes without saying don't watch this if you haven't seen the last episode but this was an alternate ending that honestly would've been pretty epic had they gone with this in game which would've then translated to the show….
Only about 5ish minutes and worth seeing how this could've gone another direction
My problem with the episode is that I didn't feel like there was even a decision to make. When she came in and told him they were going to kill Ellie without even knowing if it was going to work, I knew what he was going to do. It was the same thing any of us would have done. It was a no-brainer to me.TCTTS said:
I kept wondering where all of this was going, and the fact that it was leading to *that* specific decision Joel had to make, which I never saw coming, was just incredible. There are few greater anticipations in movies or series like this than when a character is faced with having to make a no-win decision like that. It's so visceral, and draws you in, because all you're thinking is what would *I* do in that situation (as opposed to, "Of course I would do the good thing in this very obvious good/bad situation.").
that's what I was thinking as well. She knows.hurleyag said:
Based on how somber Ellie was before the fireflies ambushed them, I think she knew the procedure they'd be doing on her was fatal. I also think she knows Joel is lying to her, but she is just accepting it.
I think it's more of the gravity of how she killed the preacher setting in. That would be traumatic for an adult to deal with. I don't think she has any idea at that point if they'll even find the hospital/fireflies.hurleyag said:

If you were to base your answer on taste alone, you might be tempted to conclude that human flesh most closely resembles that of swine, making ours the other other white meat. It's been said that cannibals on the Marquesas Islands of Polynesia, for example, referred to human meat as "long pig," on account of its likeness to pork. Infamous German cannibal Armin Meiwes, in an interview conducted from his prison cell, once described human flesh as tasting like pork, only "a little bit more bitter, stronger. It tastes quite good." Similarly, serial killers Fritz Haarmann and Karl Denke German and Polish cannibals, respectively, of the early 20th century are both said to have sold the flesh of their victims on black and local markets as "pork." Even robots, for their part, think humans "taste" like pig.
Why would Marleen basically tell Joel, knowing full well who he is and what he will do, that they're going to kill Ellie to find the cure?AggieOO said:that's what I was thinking as well. She knows.hurleyag said:

He's just been flash grenade'd and whacked over the head (which was completely unnecessary) and waking up next to armed guards (again, silly).
Marleen should have just been waiting for him to wake up and when he does "Joel, Ellie is OK, they're running some tests on her to try and figure out why the fungus is not turning her. It's a little invasive but she's safe. Lets get you cleaned up, something for that headache and something to eat and once Ellie is done we can go see her"
Instead she gives him a reason to go postal on everyone. That's just dumb. She escalated the situation and didn't have too.
Well THAT was certainly not what I was expecting.Saxsoon said:jokershady said:

Well if she's gonna lie to him about something like that, then they might as well just kill him. Because things would really hit the fan once he learned he was lied to and Ellie is dead.agracer said:Why would Marleen basically tell Joel, knowing full well who he is and what he will do, that they're going to kill Ellie to find the cure?AggieOO said:that's what I was thinking as well. Also, in regards to the vaccination and getting people to take it, good luck. We've already seen how that goes.
They already have the vaccine. The ladies aren't going to like this, but it seems like all you gotta d is inoculate the mothers just before they give birth and immunity is passed is passed to the baby. People would be beating down the door to get a vaccine if it protected them from turning into a fungal zombie.
Just as we'd have been clamoring for the covid vaccine if we'd seen it wiping people out like the bubonic plague or even the Spanish flu.

But then Joel would ask to be taken to Ellie. Then when she refused, he would demand it. Then she would refuse and Joel would get suspicious and angry. No good way to do it, though I still think it was unnecessary for them to go right for the lethal option.agracer said:Why would Marleen basically tell Joel, knowing full well who he is and what he will do, that they're going to kill Ellie to find the cure?AggieOO said:that's what I was thinking as well. Marlene could've killed Joel or just lock him up in a room. She didn't have a problem with killing Ellie for the better good of society so dispatching Joel would've been easily rationalized.barbacoa taco said:But then Joel would ask to be taken to Ellie.
