Yeah, but can't it sometimes take days for a normal person to turn? It could have been later. Or sadly, Riley could have been quickly killed once others learned she was infected.

Joel going from death bed to fighting them off isnt that unrealistic. 1) hes in fight or flight 2) he has survived 20 years of a zombie apocalypse. At this point he is built different. Those two, combined with his clear love for Ellie, would turn anyone into a superhuman for a little bit
I was thinking about this too. How fast-acting is penicillin when it is injected? maybe someone with a medical background can answer. If the wound had sealed up and the penicillin does in fact work quickly, then fight or flight response can at least kind of explain how Joel went superhuman in that moment.
I'm a few decades away from treating abdominal trauma but this was very unrealistic. A dirty stick stab would likely perforated the cecum near the appendix there. That would spill poo into the sterile peritoneal cavity resulting in certain death over days. Treatment would require surgery with repair or resection of the pierced bowel, wash out of the peritoneal cavity, day of iv antibiotics and likely a repeat surgery for any intra abdominal abscesses that develop.

Unless the stab did not get past his muscles which seems highly unlikely and wouldn't have made him that septic.

Here's a question for you and I'm just asking for your casual opinion. Let's say Last of Us happens and you're in the position of Ron Swanson's character in episode 3.

While I know you're a flaming homosexual, that's not what I meant. Let's say you have free reign of a CVS. What are you grabbing from their pharmacy besides the obvious "everything" to put yourself in a good position medically and, to make this fun, from a trade perspective as well.

i have lived in georgetown, tx for 2 years now. but I make regular trips back to seattle for business reasons.

Driving down to Austin doesn't count at taking regular trips to Seattle, btw

Every antibiotic they have particularly augmentin, levaquin, doxycycline, cefdinir, cefpodoxime for broader coverage.

Tamiflu for a flu outbreak.

Problem is with chronic diseases like hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes it's a little harder to just pick a med and monitor for it when you have no labs or diagnostics besides a stethoscope and a blood pressure cuff. I guess I would grab some amlodipine, insulin, and metoprolol as well.

I would grab dilaudid or morphine or Oxy for amputation or stitching type situations.

Possibly some higher dose prednisone, valtrex, voriconazole.

Feel like infections would be priority number one in the apocalypse.

This is correct. I would add Bactrim and clindamycin for skin infections. And tooth paste, you don't want a dental abscess with no dentist..

I had higher hopes for this season. The second half just felt like standalone excursions. I get it was following the game (or so I assume) but it didn't hit like I wanted. Some great individual scenes, dialogue, and imagery, but in the aggregate a bit choppy.

My only two complaints about the last episode - 1. significant and 2. unimportant

1. It seemed like the doctor skipped all the prelim tests/trials and went right to brain surgery as the only possible option for a cure. At least allude to him having done everything he could to avoid it. It wouldn't have added much time to the episode.

2. When Joel shot the woman firefly in the parking garage, the pistol should have been hidden beneath Ellie's hospital gown. Show this when he shoots her the first time.

Surely they could collect some of this by just doing repeated lumbar punctures and collecting CSF.

Agree with above that there are less drastic measures to try first. You wouldn't want to kill the only immune person unless you've tried 100 other things first.

Liked the last episode but agree the jumping to lethal brain surgery is a leap.

Just finished.

This gets my Best Show on Television award.

The show follows the game and the game is very good. The story arc is nice and I like minor addition that the show took showing Ellie's birth. I think having played the game the show feels less choppy but I can see how that comes across.

As a father of daughters, I loved how close Joel was to Ellie the last episode and empathized with his need to lie to her to protect her…even from her own, likely, decision to sacrifice herself for the good of humanity. And to keep her from carrying the burden of guilt.

This is the classic "trolley problem" and the big debate is…

DID JOEL DO THE RIGHT THING?

Loved the show. Top notch acting by both leads. Planning to play the game sequel before the next season.

Was thinking back on it. Was St. Louis the last time Joel and Ellie saw a zombie? At least that we were shown.

I question none of Joel's decisions and understand all of his actions for someone he loves. I would have mowed them all down the same way. I'm a terrible liar though so that lie would have been rough.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the really dumb science reasonings of the fireflies though. It really irks me and feels like super lame and lazy writing.

I love this show and I hate this show.

I don't hate it for any of the trivial issues (like people debate on here). I hate it because it never ever ever makes me feel good.

In that way it is brilliant it does not sell out to any of the standard feel good miraculous endings or even dramatic rescue by a hero or savior. There is no one to save them, they are on their own and EVERYONE is a terrible person. EVERYONE.

Unfortunately I also believe that is 100% realistic. If everything went to **** that is how it would be. So it's awesome in it's realistic depiction. But I never finish an episode and feel any better than I did before. And I don't really look forward to the next episode it's more like I have to watch it.

The only thing making me feel better lately is the fatherly love Joel is feeling for Ellie, after shutting her out emotionally for so long. And the void she has had her whole that is being filled by that. Literally the only thing. They are both helping each other in a way that isn't quantifiable or describable.

Became a girl dad 2 years ago unexpectedly after thinking we could never have children. The way he was examining her and the pure joy she was experiencing feeding that giraffe hit me in the feelers unexpectedly.

That's a pure father move and it's almost like a drug enjoying the world through your son or daughter's eyes when they are experiencing it for the first time. Makes you feel young again.

Everything about this show is negative except for that and I am excited for season 2 mostly for that.

But I do get it. And the me from a few years ago before kids would have probably said the exact same. Still a very dark show but also pretty amazing.

I'll say this, they nailed Ellie's momma with the casting of Ashley Johnson.

I enjoyed the season and it's really well done but boy it's a downer of a show but I get that in this world that's realistic.

Well, she does the voice of Ellie in the video game, so...

Man I can't wait to read this thread when season 2 comes out. The second video game's content is going to send this thread off the freaking rails. I predict multiple bans and a couple of permabans.

Hell of a finale.

There really is no "good" in this show. But damn it if Joel isn't so root able for.

Found that to be a lackluster finale.

Overall, i'd give Season 1 of show an 8/10. There were some great moments in there, and I loved Pedro Pascal as Joel.

Still just don't care for Bella Ramsey in this role. I do not find her likeable, at all. When they said they were going to have to kill her during the operation, I realized i just wouldn't have cared if they had. I knew Joel was going to save her in the most video game moment of the series, but I truly did not care about her peril.
