I can't believe I didn't see it, myself. I guess I was in such shock on how bad it all was that I couldn't make that connection.

Its just so incredibly out of place in not only Tatooine, but Star Wars in general.
Something like those on Coruscant wouldn't bother me but hated them on tattooine
Good point... this "gang" of hipsters has a place, but Tatooine? Come on...

They should have been hanging out at Dexter's place trying to make the loop in the time it takes for Dual of the fates to play

I will give it this - the music is great.

The End Credits tribal music is awesome.

The all-male Gregorian chorus during the TR Aftermath scene and burning the bodies of his tribe was really good too.

I can't decide if Fett wanting to ride a rancor is epic and cool or just over the top corny.

I thought he was gonna keep Krrsantan as his beast at first, a la Chewie in Solo. That would've been ice cold.
forget who deserves credit for "flashbacta"...the real geniuses are over at the Ringerverse where they dubbed Krrsantan as "Tupacca"

Honestly the original was so iconic that i guess people get lazy

There are flashes of coolness after empire.

Maul
Parts of revenge
The end of clone wars
Rogue 1
Mandalorian
The tie falcon chase in awakens

Other than that, a couple of interesting things here and there, everything has ranged from cringeworthy to downright offensively bad.

The second episode of this thing had a few moments but theyre wasting/****ting on the most iconic movie franchise and easiest 'win' in movie history.

Damn. This episode is indefensible.

The "biker gang" feels like clichd injected marketing crap to sell toys. "Lets make the bikes really bright so babies will like this show."

They basically Snoke'd The Twins. Introduce a possible cool villain and then just trash it.

Hope it gets better from here.

Bryce Dallas Howard is the director of the next episode, so we will see Boba Fett running from raptors on a speeder
Also means we'll get some female empowerment message shoved down our throats if it's anything like the Mandalorian episode she directed (IIRC it was the one where Mando and the fishing village take on the AT-ST). So watch Boba get his butt kicked again, and What's Her Face and New Biker Teen Girl will save him over and over, because that's the message Disney wants to send about Star Wars.

I had never read Dune or never knew anything about it really, until watching the recent one on HBO MAX. I don't think I can ever enjoy another Star Wars production after seeing Dune.

This show sucks. I'll still watch it just because it's Star Wars.

The flashbacks are more interesting than present day.

I thought the bit in this episode about "Tattoine used to be covered in oceans until..." might have been a Dune reference. I was waiting for him to say something about little makers until he was interupted.

And there was that scene in Rise of Skywalker when they are lightspeed jumping, or whatever they called it, and the MF ended up on a desert planet with a giant worm about to chomp them when they jumped again.

Finally had a chance to chime in.

This probably hasn't been discussed yet, and I doubt you guys are aware, but in case you didn't catch it the first 37 times they mentioned it… the point of this show is that Boba Fett needs to earn respect. And the crux of it all is that - get this - no one respects him. Not even the dude who had his stapler stolen, and absolutely no one respects that guy. So Boba Fett is going to have to earn it. The respect, that is. Which he needs. Because he doesn't have any. So he's gotta get out there and earn it. Why? That's not important. What's imperative is that he earn it not with fear, but with a posse of teen cyborgs who ride an assortment of bright, candy-colored hover scooters. Which Boba Fett finally acquired this episode. So now at least that respect should come a little easier, and won't at all make him come across as more of a clueless clown who, even though he's been around crime his entire life, for some reason has no idea how crime works. But whatever, it's all about that respect. Which, again, he has to earn. But not with fear. NEVER with fear. Instead, he's going to walk around town demanding things from people, continuing to perpetuate a cycle of crime, mob rule, and dysfunctional, sycophant loyalty, but by god he's at least going to be sort of nice about it. Even though he's not. And even though this is the perfect opportunity to break that cycle and try and intact real change that could, you know, actually help people. But nope, this is about respect, damn it. It's about respecting a grown ass man in his early 60s who insists on employing teenage orphans who flank him with floating Vespas in a rainbow V formation wherever he goes.

In all seriousness, Boba Fett is really bad at his job and should in no way be a crime lord. That, and three episodes in and I still have no idea why he wants to do any of this in the first place. If your show is purposely designed to reveal your main character's motivation toward the end - as some kind of big reveal you've been leading up to - you're not telling a good story. It's that simple.

But, yeah, this is just not a well-made, well-told show. At all.

As has been mocked relentlessly, and deservedly so, the Espa Vespas are easily up there with the dumbest things I've seen in Star Wars, which is saying something. Like something out of a really bad YA movie.

The next four episodes could very well have their moments, and will probably feature a cool cameo/shocker or two, but starting out this uneven - basically 1 for 3, if that - it's going to take a hell of lot to save itself. Based on what we've seen so far, I'm not hopeful it can.

To be honest a lot of what is going on is exactly what many fans were afraid of when they brought him back to begin with.

Speaking of, when was it that Star Wars so blatantly started blatantly winking at mid-20th-century cultural touchstones? Because I can't remember that being a thing in the OT, unless there's an instance or two I'm not immediately thinking of. I understand that some of the best sci-fi/fantasy is a commentary on our own world, and that much of the OT is inspired by pulp movie serials, Japanese cinema, westerns, etc. But it was always super subtle in its homages, and was never like, "Look, see, we're doing the thing! Isn't this so clever?!"

It just feels like, maybe starting with Dex's Diner in AOTC, Star Wars increasingly felt the need to incorporate direct analogs to 1950s/'60s American culture in ways that become more and more blatant, to the point of parody, culminating in what we got this week with the Espa Vespas, something that has never felt so out of place in this franchise. I think it's the combination of that gang and the other, leather-clad "biker gang" of Nikto miners or whatever at Tosche Station (who I guess killed all the Tusken Raiders?) that has me just constantly rolling my eyes.

So much of Star Wars lately - this show in, particular - just feels like old men using increasingly outdated references (Westerns! Diners! Biker gangs! Teen greasers!) in super obvious ways, to tell these stories, and it's all starting to feel so incredibly old. Star Wars can obviously look/feel so cool at times, but when they keep going back to the mid-20th-century well, and simultaneously lean into the '70s aesthetic, like with that sh*tty speeder the mayor's right-hand-man was driving, and the "phone booth" hologram thing (how are there not the equivalent of cell phones in this world?), and sideburns and all that, I really start to wonder what the shelf life of this franchise is going forward. As our present-day world sees so many technological advances, how much longer can Star Wars remain beholden to an aesthetic born in the '70s, constantly making references to things from even earlier than that?

i remember everyone thinking fett was so cool in Empire. limited air time but cool. seemed like he had respect then.

but it went into joke mode in jedi.

and been worse since. star wars definitely let familiarity breed contempt.

The design people for Star Wars, at least until the modern era, weren't allowed to use anything that didn't exist before 1950 or so. So toggles, switches, door handles and all the set dressing maintained a consistent feel to it. I know TLJ at least held to this and I suspect the other ST movies did as well. TBOBF seems to have stepped away from that somewhat.

Yeah, I'm aware. And on one hand, I respect that. But on the other, holding to that aesthetic is eventually going to bite this franchise in the ass, and do nothing but make it feel more and more dated. Dune is doing something similar, but in a far more organic way, and has actual, in-world reasoning behind it. Here, though, it always just screams "1970s!" for no other reason than because Star Wars was produced in the 1970s. But it's a world and an aesthetic that is making increasingly less sense as a modern blockbuster franchise.
