"Jabba ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect."

"Why speak of conflict when cooperation can make us all rich?"

Respect and cooperation? Those are an unexpected set of values to advertise a story about a bounty hunter taking over a massive criminal empire. What's that about? I want to see some bad dudes hunting other bad dudes.

Robert Rodriguez has said that trailer is the first half of the first episode and they can't even show the 2nd half of the episode in the trailer because of spoilers. We all that Mando would just be wandering around collecting bounties at this point 2 years ago.

Yeah, I have a feeling things go sideways pretty fast, and that there are all kinds of cool plot developments/cameos in store.

I just want to see Cad Bane! I've been wanting to go as him for Halloween and it's hard to get costumes!

I read somewhere that Mandalorian is Star Wars cowboy and Boba Fett is Star Wars mobster.

I was pumped for this so did a quick rewatch of mando season 2. Now I just want more mando in addition to this. Hard to believe we have had four live action mcu shows & four movies since last time we saw Star Wars universe.

Going to watch it again tonight with the fam, so maybe I'll answer some of my questions and missed points then.

Loved the Kamino and Geonosis callbacks right out of the gate. Seemed like different angles of young Boba going to his Dad's helmet on Geonosis than in AOTC - was it a different take of footage? CGIed Daniel Logan? Or maybe I just haven't watched AOTC in a while.

I liked seeing inside the Sarlaac, but what was a stormtrooper doing there? Where was the Weequay and the other guy who fell in? I liked that there was no air to breathe in there, but it seemed like he got out about 30 minutes after the battle ended. That's a big 5 year gap to fill between then and when he starts tracking Mando.

Loved the Jawas taking his **** and knocking him out, continuing the Mando theme of Jawas being opportunistics *******s.

Liked the Sand People dragging his ass when he couldn't walk anymore. Didn't love the Sand People overall in appearance. They seemed well fed and fairly prosperous, I always got the impression from the OT that they were just scratching and clawing through life in the dessert. I did like them having society and customs and what not though.

First I was pondering why Boba is so beat to hell after the fight with the Flying Walloons and has to be in the healing tank so much, but then I tried to do some math. If he's about 10 in AOTC, he's in his mid 30s in the OT, so early 40s in BOBF? Temeura Morrison turned 61 a few days ago. Even if you factor in hard living, Boba looks like ***** Could it be there's something about his genetic code or DNA breaking down? Maybe there's a plot line in there somewhere, especially since we know from Bad Batch that Tipoca City on Kamino is gone, but Taun We got moved to the Imperial Science Center on Weyland. Maybe the season ends with Mando heping him break into that facility to kidnap Taun We or get a solution to why he's aging quickly and can't take a licking so much anymore.

Loved the Bith/Max Reebo combo playing the alternate version of the Cantina music at the club.

Who is the Mayor of Mos Espa going to be?

Since we're in Mos Espa, are we going to get a Watto cameo? Or go back to the Pod Race track? Is anyone still betting heavily on Sebulba?

The monster under the sand was nuts. I thought it was a baby Krayt at first. Reminded me somewhat of Kirk fighting the lizard guy in the original Star Trek, and of course, Fett killed it just like Leia killed Jabba.

Great connection of why he wants to lead with respect, since that's obviously how he got in good with the Tuskens.

Loved the Gamorreans kicking ass. So much toy box stuff from Favreau and company. You know in the 1980s when you had battles, the Gamorreans were big-time bruisers in your backyard.

If I had a minor gripe it would be how "on the nose" the flashbacks were at the start, like they precisely answered every question we had going in - what happened when he fell in, how did he get out, how did he lose his armor, how did he wind up with the Tuskens. Just felt like it was ticking down a list. But even typing that makes me feel petty.

Final thought: Imagine the Jawas' reaction to rolilng up on Jabba's entire sail barge out there abandoned and left for scrap.

During the fight scene in the "street", some of the moves by Boba were about as slow as a Steven Seagal scene. Maybe it was intentional because his body is breaking down or maybe it is just the age of the actor or his stunt double.

Looking at IMDB, one of the Gamorrean Guards was played by Collin Hymes, who had an early role in The Untouchables as the baby in the carriage. Nice early career in stunts

The Twilek majorodomo was JLD's ex-husband on Veep

The other Twilek waitress besides Jennifer Beals in the cantina bears some additional attention.

I liked the first episode. Nothing really blew me away about it, but it had some interesting world building to hopefully set up a great series

Don't wanna be a downer here…but I thought the first episode was awful. The acting, the costumes, the music, everything seemed off. I remember not liking mando too much in the first few episodes but loved by the end…hope the same happens here

Good opener, but I figure there is a lot of time between all these flashbacks/his time with the Tuskens and the portions where he is in his Boba Fett gear since I seem to recall he retrieved that from the Mandalorian season 2?

I enjoyed it. Not much action and the one action scene with the ninja shield guys didn't impress me too much.

But the story starting off and showing a lot of the past with the sarlac pit and sand people I thought was really cool

Didn't love it, didn't hate it. LOVED the first 10 or so minutes showing the escape from the Sarlaac and the Jawas scavenging the wreck of Jabba's Sail Barge (but why was a Stormtrooper in the Sarlaac?). Enjoyed the "cameos" from the classic OT aliens that Disney refused to put in the Sequels for whatever reason. Thought Machamp from Pokmon was really weird. Also don't really understand why Boba is still weak from the Sarlaac/Tusken captivity when Mandalorian showed he was anything but. And the shield ninjas were a missed opportunity to show Boba using the jet pack.

Love how the first 10 minutes was "here's how it really went down".

Also, how tf is Ming-Na Wen 58?!

I felt a few scenes had some very dull cinematography - Fett standing stage left, Tuskens standing stage right. But I felt that way a few times during Mando as well, and I felt like those simpler scenes and episodes are always build-ups to bigger things in later episodes, like the old-time TV shows they are based on; simpler episodes used to establish the who and the what, and then later ones tell the how and the why.

Definitely odd how massively savage Boba is during his destruction of the stormtroopers on Tython during the episode where Grogu gets kidnapped versus how tough a go he has vs. the shield boys on the streets of Mos Espa. And why didn't Fennec have a gun in that scene?

- Loved the Sci-Western feel of it as well
- Music was amazing (same composer from Mando?)
- Good overall story, but wonder at the Boba character arc: in ESB and RotJ he was no nonsense, projecting silent power, cunning... here he seems to be coming from a position of weakness and is surprised a couple of times. Also the coming from a position of respect not fear, seems naive from a Crime Lord / Mobster perspective, but I suppose he's trying to find a new way to do business...
- The Gamorreans were great
- The twi'lek establishment owner is hot (would)
- Loved that they showed the circumstances inside the Sarlacc and THAT he got out, but not necessarily exactly how - leave it a mystery, great job here
- The Jawas were *******s; and they're damned fast at stripping a body
- Like the introduction of a cool new 6-armed gorilla reptile ; that thing was gnarly

Rewatching now:
ETA - loved Max Rebo and the Bith (Was it Figrin D'an?) and their style of music
- Other TwiLek girls are hot too

Quote:

(but why was a Stormtrooper in the Sarlaac?).

The storm trooper appears to have been in there MUCH longer (dead and signs of advanced digestion)... so he could be in there from some previous Jabba event. I didn't have a problem with it.

The Weequay and other aliens probably fell into other stomach chambers ... or were suffocated and on the floor where you can't see them...
