The Marshall was bad, but Cad Bane goes too far into a Spaghetti Western ripoff for my liking. The hat, duster, holstered pistols & boots? Why not just have him ride in on a black horse & be accompanied by a sidekick & complete the stereotype?

That has been his character and attire for years. He has always been old west bounty hunter inspired (basically Clint Eastwood from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and A Few Dollars More).

I know.... just seems very out of place and not very creative. (I never watched the animated stuff)

Mando and BOBF are both largely based on Westerns. Several episodes - the natives attacking the train, Mando and Cara Dune protecting the town from bandits, Mando fighting the entire town, come straight from that genre of TVs and movies and radio serials. Cad Bane belongs more in this series than anyone.

I get all that & am ok with reusing those familiar tropes. I don't have a problem with the character, It's his dress I'm referring to. Maybe it'll grow on me.

I dig it. For people unfamiliar with the animation, the instant adulation of "new" characters is probably a bit odd. Those of us who have watched CW and Rebels and BB are like falling in love with SW all over again when Bo Katan or Ahsoka or Cad Bane show up. When Ahsoka laughs and pats R2 on the head, it's a call back to 50 different scenes from The Clone Wars, but if you didn't watch them, it's a throw-away scene.

Not that it will change anyone's mind, but those cartoons are mostly 23 minute episodes. There are plenty of duds, but the good ones are marvelous and give you loads of new and familiar characters to enjoy. They've deepened the prequels so much with texture and side stories and so forth. Watch one while you're on the exercise bike or relaxing before bed or just need 20 minutes of downtime, you won't regret it.

I went through and watched the various animated series last year, definitely quite a few duds in there. Some shows the animation style took a bit to accept, but there was a LOT of good storytelling for sure.

They literally designed him around Lee van Cleef's character in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

As someone who came really late into the animated series (just threw it on one day while working from home with sick kids) I can almost guarantee it'll grow on you. He's a damn menace in the series, always dangerous, and he'll do crazy stuff like taking Senators hostage in the middle of the Coruscant capitol and getting away with it. Walking into town was equivalent to "Omar's comin!"

I'll agree to disagree. Cad Bane was fun in the animated stuff, but his appearance his week in BOBF made his one of my favorite villains in all of Star Wars. Everything about that was phenomenal.

Just watched the latest episode last night. It was great fun. The only bad part was the 10 seconds Boba Fat was on the screen. It was like "oh, THAT guy again."

Will be interesting to see if they can marry the quality of these last two episodes in the finale with the Boba Fett show and redeem the Boba Fett character and show (because I don't think it's accurate to really consider these last two episodes part of the same show).

As far as Luke making Grogu choose, anyone else get the idea that he's doing it because he thinks Grogu will choose Mando and to some extent actually wants him to do so? Like this is his way of breaking with Jedi tradition (as exemplified by Ashoka's presence) without actually breaking with it overtly?

you guys do realize that the ENTIRE attraction of star wars was built by taking cool old movies and putting special effects on them, yes? And then using ground-breaking audio effects.

erol flynn swashbuckling
merlin magic
ww2 dogfights
laurel & hardy robots, etc.

now its just the OK corral. Yes, it was VERY strongly tied to Good bad and Ugly - but that was one of the greatest movies of all time. It needed to be done, and they did actually pul it off. Speaking of good bad and ugly, you did notice that TFA stole that music, yes?

I was hoping Ashoka would drop the "This is the way" line on Mando. The Watch and the Jedi both have some pretty extreme ideals.

I wasn't sure Rosario Dawson was going to be right as Ashoka but she's really been great. And probably gets a ton of fan mail or social media DM's from nerds who are proposing to her.

I like Dawson as Ahsoka, but I feel like she's portraying the character slightly different than the animated version. Like, she's playing the character more aloof, or something. I'm not sure that's the best word for how I should describe it, but something along those lines.

Again, I don't dislike it...it's just different, to me.

It feels in line with Ahsoka from Rebels.

You're probably right, and I should go watch some of those episodes again. Been a long time, and the most recent stuff was the final Clone Wars.

You just gave me the perfect idea for the title of another spin-off…

He is no one.

He is everyone.

He is the galaxy's most feared bounty hunter.

He is…

"Citizen Bane"

Pretty sure he was referring the finale of St Elsewhere, where it was revealed that the whole show was in the imagination of a kid of one of the characters. Another pretty famous finale.

Touche. In my defense, I was still up at 5 AM my time and had been up all night writing. I admittedly saw "snow globe" and lazily thought "Citizen Kane."

That said, a bunch of old ass dudes can mock me all they want for not having seen a bunch old ass shows. Makes me feel relatively young for the first time in a while!

I haven't watched all of CW, but I get what you are going towards. Maybe it's her take on how that character would have matured…

Takes a shot at old ass dudes

References old ass shows he hasn't seen

Makes reference to a film released in 1941 as source material for lame ass joke

i just finished watching all of them. told my brother in law last night that i'd never do a rewatch of those bc of the time investment. i'm bookmarking the above link in case I ever want to do a rewatch. Thanks!

still a lot of episodes, but not nearly as bad as a full rewatch.

This all has to be setting up for Mando on Boba's side and Cade Bane on the Pykes side. The deciding factor is that the sand people show up and show out in support of Boba.

1) that was awesome

2) it another illustration of why being stuck in between the movies is a problem. Like a B horror movie with everyone in the audience yelling at the kid to take the armor because they know what happens

Maybe at some point they can retcon the school being destroyed by Kylo, to Luke saying it was destroyed so that Asoka could hide the rest of the young students after Kylo went to the dark side.

Good lord the new movies made mess of everything.

Apparently Chuck Wendig is upset at Lucasfilm for not crediting him in the last episode for being the creator of Cobb Vanth in his SW novel.

What a whiner. News flash Chuck, you don't own that character. You were a hired hand.

Could've maybe tweeted out some appreciation for the fact that the show popularized his character that 99% of people had never heard of.
