The thing I really hate about these movies is they never discuss Rey's Midichlorian count. If she is high enough in midichlorians, it would explain most of her force wielding ability. They could have easily knocked all these questions out with just one little scanner and a skin poke.

I think that's where you'll see a lot of focus in Ep IX. Rey trying to figure things out with the help of the books, ghost Luke, and Maz.
The setup for Ep IX is interesting because it doesn't feel like the end of a 9-episode arc, which is what JJ says it is. Another reason why I think we'll see a long time jump and we'll get caught up by the scroll and some exposition.

I personally think that is a pretty weak example. A younger, more in fighting shape person vs someone who hasn't fought in probably a decade.
And yes, Rey was being dramatic there, but that wasn't the point.

I think it's safe to assume that JJ will go back to revisit the elements that he used in Ep VII, which include Maz and the Knights of Ren. MAYBE Phasma... I don't think so, but I wouldn't rule it out.redline248 said:

Let's be honest, if she wasn't in TLJ and then showed up to help in IX, a segment of the fandom would be complaining loudly how she came out of nowhere and should have had a role in TLJ.
