Watched a second time.

Rey definitely put the books on the Falcon. There is a scene with her closing the same drawer that was opened at the end of the movie.

Yoda's discussion was worth a second listen. The main focus is that we must protect Rey and not lose her also to the dark. Luke will train her in IX.

Did they never get to lesson 3? She runs off before it, right?

Del Torro saying, "They blow you up today, you blow them up tomorrow," will be something. He will come back to help the Resistance.

Leia should have flown the cruiser into Snoke's ship! Would have been an epic moment for Star Wars!

The casino is still a waste but the biggest thing that comes from it is when they sift through the owner of the stolen ship's past to see that he has funded both sides of the war. Thus far the First Order seems to have all the money. This will shift eventually with the big cigars.

Missed a big moment with Luke reuniting with Chewy and R2. I thought it was pretty meh. Could have been a much more emotional hook.

Interesting to watch the fight with Luke and Kylo. Kylo's feet kicked up red stuff, Luke's did not. The camera even pointed at it one time.

Speaking of hooks...there are still none to get you excited for IX.

I got to see a new trailer. Avita? Looks good. Ready Player One will be great!

This is an interesting thought. If Lucas was still in charge, I think you could be right. But not with the current crew we have running things. It obviously wasn't placed there to be used for the last film. JJ could write with this going forward for Ep9, but I don't think he gets into that level of detail. It would be a good explanation though for how the resistance could grow again.

That said, I'm actually interested to see JJ have to close for once. He's always shepherded the beginnings of things... Lost, Mission: Impossible III (he basically "rebooted" the series into what it is today), Star Trek (along with a ****ty middle installment), and of course, The Force Awakens. But now that he's forced to close something out, and seeing as TLJ left hardly any threads dangling, I'm at least curious to see what he can do in this position. He's having to flex a muscle he's never really used before, and I'm wondering if that's going to work to his strengths or his weaknesses.

Almost every rumor site thought the FO was invading the island at the start of the film. It is amazing how little we knew about this film. Also figured the salt planet was in the first act.

Also, I think they made up Snoke's storyline after reading all rumors. I think the story group wanted to put up a huge middle finger to the internet theorists. The "your Snoke theory sucks" crap went to their heads.

The venom directed at the achievements of this film are depressing but hardly surprising. Kennedy and Hart, who mercifully took over from Lucas five years ago, are finally forcing fanboys to face a new, welcome reality - that diversity and inclusion are here, and won't be going anywhere.

Here's a NYT story about it, which will hopefully provide context to their project. Finally, The Last Jedi's critics, as they have very accurately suggested, need to examine themselves and their motivations.

So in an attempt to not continually dump on this movie, because really what's the point anymore?:

What did everyone think of Yoda? It was a practical puppet with Frank Oz's hand inside which is pretty cool. At first I thought it was weird because we are so used to CGI characters, but I really thought the practical puppet brought something special that I can't quantify.

Agreed, the damn dirty apes from those movies are the best I've seen. In fact, I'd put most if not all of the CGI characters from the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies over Snoke.

Instead of focusing on diversity and inclusion, I wish they would focus on plot consistency and character development.

The overwhelming amount of criticism I've seen have been about the whole emergence of mental communication across space, the whole casino planet, and Luke's beard.

Criticism of each star wars sequel/prequel happens with each new movie, especially for the prequels.

Damnit, this video just popped up on my youtube again, and it's making me pissed at the ****ing Last Jedi. I like it a lot, but I can't get past the Luke story line.


The only explanation for Luke's reaction to Ben Solo is that Luke saw him killing Han. It would have been the perfect thing to put in the film via a vision in that flashback.

Gollum is amazing and maybe his best acting job (although Caesar might get that too imo), but if we're talking about the best-looking CGI character, it's not even a contest. The apes are flat out incredible and have set the bar for CGI in films. I'm still not convinced that they didn't train actual monkeys to talk and fire guns.


Serkis certainly has an incredible and impressive resume.

In agreement 100%.

I know someone who's seen a chunk of his next no-cap movie, Mowgli - yet another Jungle Book interpretation - but they said it's seriously stunning. Just jaw-dropping CGI. I can't imagine audiences lining up for that story yet again, so soon after Disney's version, but apparently it's darker and different enough that Warner Bros. has confidence enough to stick to its October 2018 release. Serkis is playing Baloo, and it's another star-studded cast.

Watching it a second time, I liked it more. There were a lot of things that were too confusing, but once I knew outcomes the movie made more sense.

Which means the plot/development just wasn't well done if multiple viewings are needed. But, still an entertaining film. Two things still bother me - Rose and Fin's storyline in general, and Rey's parents jut being nobodies.

I understand that it's a different take than the Disney version but why would anyone release another CGI Jungle Book at this time. Seems wierd.

CGI, I'd still give to Avatar, even over Apes. But Apes is a close second and Davey Jones is third. Probably tied with Gollum.

Both movies were developed around the same time. Another Armageddon / Deep Impact situation. It just took this one way longer for all the pieces to fall into place, and WB had already committed a ton of money to it by the time Disney released Jungle Book.

Sorry, I can't read anything from the NY Times. I wouldn't trust those jackwagons to be telling me the truth on anything.

So without reading, can you tell me why I should give a crap about the ethnicity/skin color/what-have-you of the person(s) who write Episode IX? Aside from the writer(s) injecting overtly SJW garbage into Star Wars, which I don't believe was truly present in TLJ (purple-haired admiral putting a male in his place: I didn't really see it that way, it was more of one person outranking the other in a military setting), I don't care who writes the movie.

There was something about that article Redstone posted (even though we know he was trolling) that bothered me. It took me awhile to figure it out but I finally did. It's not the inclusion and diversity angle, it's the fact that it's becoming evident these movies are being written by committee.

I don't mean two or even three writers/directors getting together, I mean a panel of 10 or so people who are less worried about a coherent plot and more worried about certain character types and themes being relayed in the story. The whole Rose/gambling planet storyline makes sense when you realize it likely stemmed from this panel of people depicted in that article.

I realize Star Wars has been a merchandising bonanza for awhile now, and I'm likely just coming to the obvious conclusion many of you already have, but it's clear to me now that Star Wars is no longer a movie franchise about some cool stuff that happens in space. Star Wars is now simply a "corporation" whose goal is the same as every other company - continue coming up with products with the most current mass appeal likely to resonate with a generic consumer. At least Marvel is doing that with an overarching plan in place.

When I inevitably go see the next movie with my son I'm going to remember that and shut my brain off and pretend like it's set in a completely different universe than the original trilogy I grew up with.

ESB - Lando/Chewie go after Han. Luke heals up and trains more. Does he join his dad or defeat him?Rebels reorganize to fight empire. Empire has rebels on run.

TLJ - literally a dozen resistance fighters left on an old Falcon. No known destination. Apparently the whole galaxy quit the second the republic capital planet was blown up (even though the resistance destroyed the planet killer). However, the Force and resistance lives through Rey and a young kid with force abilities, respectively. FO is crippled but apparently has a massive armada. Unknown size. No known planet or system to call home.

Love triangles. Knights of Ren. Ending the war. Who knows?

Notice how simple ESB is to say vs TLJ.
