I'm just waiting for a petition to come out from fans demanding to see the George Lucas version of TLJ.

I hope IX ends with Kylo become supreme leader of the entire galaxy.

Him ultimately winning would be "bold."
I'm all for this.
And he can still have Rey. How many people of a certain status marry to keep their family or personal status intact? They don't have to love each other, they just need to have a couple of children and then they can each try to influence their kids to do their bidding or follow their ethos...

I will at least give a few nods to the better parts.

Lots of oohs and aahs to Luke dusting his shoulder off after getting blasted.

The dreadnoughts looked badass.

The red salt planet had very pretty effects.

The Rey / Kylo tag team was fun to watch.

Agree. I got the ewok village for my 5th birthday and it was awesome. Remade it out of wood for my kid 2 years ago.

Watching TFA again, can never look at the end the same again since we know Luke just flips the saber over his shoulder...way to completely ruin one of the best, and most talked/speculated about scenes in Star Wars history Rian. Dumbass....

Really liked the close of Shapiro's review:

Quote:

Those big things that are right with the film are more important, in many ways, than the things that are wrong with the film. Rian Johnson, the director, didn't play it safe, and that's great. But he did play it safe by having Kylo return to the Dark Side and turning Rey into an avatar of populism. Those are mistakes that will haunt the franchise. And without Luke and Han and the nostalgia factor, can Star Wars carry forward with the same legacy, without just turning into another Avengers series a fun watch that has no real emotional resonance?

Overall, better than The Force Awakens, which doesn't hold up on repeat, and planted seeds that poisoned The Last Jedi, particularly with regard to Kylo Ren. Not as good as Rogue One, and below Return of the Jedi. It's difficult to imagine how Episode IX can remain interesting with a universe this narrowed and a set of compelling characters reduced to a grand total of two: Kylo and Rey.

I disagree where he ranks it. I think this movie is going to make huge, huge problems for this franchise going forward. I think you will see a huge downturn in opening weekend attendance for the next film and I kind of feel sorry for JJ Abrams.

I mean, is anybody excited about where they are going to go with this now?

Rey is already fully realized as a protagonist. She can't really get any more powerful or perfect. She has yet to **** anything up or make any mistakes. She has more wisdom and power than the most powerful Jedi of all time.

They've completely ruined Finn's character. They had a lot of potential with him from the start. A deserter from the First Order was a cool idea and could have really gone some interesting ways, but now I cannot figure out where they are going with him and, unlike at the end of the TFA, I don't care anymore.

Kylo is the big bad. Cool. I think he is by far the most interesting character left, but like Shapiro says, now what? He has killed everyone he wanted to kill and he probably won't or can't kill Rey, so now what? He gets more angry and angsty? He and Hux go back and forth like potluck roommates?

Poe sucks now. Makes nothing but bad decisions. Hard to believe anybody would follow him after he basically got the whole resistance destroyed. And that's if we just completely ignore that he committed open mutiny and should have been executed by any reasonable measure.

Rose ****ing sucks. **** Rose. If they don't kill her off in first ten minutes, then they suck. WTF is the point of Rose, seriously?

I mean, seriously, all this talk and not one person has even speculated about where episode nine will go. There is literally nothing left to speculate about. This *****bag Johnson screwed over Abrams so bad. And Disney signed him up for a trilogy? The fuq?

This absolutely NAILS the key issues i see with it. I dont care about playing fast and loose with space or other nitpicky issues. This post nails several of the fundamental issues with the key characters and what's left to tell in IX.

And the trailers before the movie seemed to last an hour and most of the movies looked terrible, that movie with Oprah...yikes.

Back to Star Wars....let's just take a bunch of stuff from the OT and rehash it....

Instead of ice Hoth battle...how about salty Hoth
Instead of Vader teaming up with Luke to kill the emperor...how about Rey and Kylo team up to kill Snoke
Instead of Yoda living like a hermit on degobah training Luke...how about Luke living like a hermit on the island and training Rey.
Instead of heading to mos eisley cantina to find a smuggler/pilot....how about heading to a casino to find a codebreaker...we can even use the same band to play in the background.

Seemed a bit lazy in the writing.

I can't star this post enough. Pretty much matches exactly how I feel.

I'll go further to say that I'm not against the series being changed up. We all know at some point they needed to move past nostalgia and the original three stars. I'm completely fine with that as Star Wars is a big huge playground with stories that can be told well beyond Luke/Han/Leia and their offspring.

My big issue with TLJ isn't that it's "different", but that essentially all the set up Abrams did in TFA was all for nothing. If they were stand alone films, fine. Instead, this is a trilogy with a connected story, yet Johnson basically tossed out everything. On top of that, as the post above points out, for so many people, there is simply no anticipation for Episode IX outside of maybe wondering how this thing finishes up. This isn't how most of us expected to feel after TLJ.

Maybe it was all a big master plan from the start, but if I had to guess, I imagine Abrams is pretty pissed off with all the interesting story lines he handed to Johnson to work on TLJ, and the ****show that Abrams has been given back to finish up the trilogy.

What I think is weird is how they keep letting kids on the island. At some point someone should be like, "nah, kids and dinosaurs together always seem to cause problems to occur."

Yep. Like I said, they took zero to negligible risk. They rehashed things, nothing more. That's one reason the subplots didn't go anywhere. That would be risky.

Or if he's dead. He might now be able to manifest himself in and out of physical space and some force realm...

I thought ROTS was better. Biggest issue was Anakin dialogue, but was it really worse than what Rose and Finn were dishing out? Finn/Rose was as cheesy and bad as anything in the prequels outside of JarJar.
