It's been said, but I'll say it again, dang it was good to see some Frank Oz era puppet Yoda rapping people on the head with his cane.

I ranked it as the worst SW movie ever. Not even the throwbacks to the OT could save it. This movie was all about pushing Disney's SJW propaganda at the cost of a good plot. The result was that it destroyed everything we loved about SW.

like others have said....ridiculous.

and like others i feel highly attuned to that kind of crap...not one part of this felt like that.

It felt a whole lot more like OT SW campiness minus the horrible Lucas stiff acting and green screen crap that ruined those movies.

you have to be intentionally looking for that to see it as that and let it cloud everything. thats pathetic.

get off your high horse and quit making everything political. thats on you.

StarWars is and has always been about FUN.

Don't be a StarWars snob, otherwise you'll be robbing yourself of a lot of great StarWars fun.

Fun, like an Ewok teddy bear, or a remote control BB8. Was TLJ fun? Hell yes, so just find a way to love space Leia and the rest of the faults, that's what I'm working on right now...

I loved the way Yoda was in this movie. He felt like the original Yoda. Also love the way he was still a force user even as a force ghost. I think that is a game changer. Will be interesting to see if that is developed.

I thought that was another terrible thing about this movie. If Yoda can just call down a bolt of lightning from the sky as a force ghost, why doesn't he just strike down Kylo and end this abomination of SW trilogy?

We get it. You absolutely despise this movie and the new trilogy. You know longer need to post here and can shift back over to the Politics board. It'll make you feel better.

I'm hoping that it develops in a way that is more like spiritual guidance. Understandings are changed like in this one with Luke. Or actively opening or closing paths for characters to follow. More active than just appearing to give verbal direction and then showing satisfaction as the story wraps up.

That's because StarWars is back! Love it or Hate it, who cares?!?! StarWars is back!

People from my generation who were young kids that saw the original trilogy in theater (or just one, ROTJ, in my case), had to wait years and decades to see another StarWars movie in theater. Unless you know what it's like to wait, then you couldn't understand how great it is to just sit down in a cold theater and see "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."

Watched all movies again since Thursday's Last Jedi viewing

New rankings:

Empire

<gap>

Rogue One first trailer before they ordered all the reshoots (/bit stolen from andy greenwald)
Force Awakens (I love Member Berries)
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One final version
Last Jedi

<infinite gap>

Prequels are dead to me now and I can only hope Disney will reboot them someday...maybe when Lucas dies

I'm going to wait until I see it again tomorrow, but I'm leaning towards ranking this one above both TFA and RO.

On problem with Rey is still her and, hell, definitely Finn wielding a lightsaber. How is that possible with no training? It absolutely goes against canon material, see Sabine in Rebels.

For me RO is a better movie, even with its flaws.
It told a better, more cohesive story, and was a better movie with real consequences.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If this movie really didn't strike you as a bit heavy-handed with the SJW themes, fair enough, but it annoyed a lot of fans. I personally wouldn't care about it if it was couched within an otherwise great movie. It was the failed humor, pointless sideplots, weak writing, etc along with attempts at social messages that had me wishing they'd tried as hard to make an amazing SW movies as they tried to hammer home an agenda. Still, 6/10, had some cool moments. Driver as Kylo is one of the only outstanding aspects.

I know it's been mentioned, but my feelings of confusion with writing and directing choices started when Luke tossed the lightsaber over his shoulder... why not just have him drop it? The toss was slapstick and cheap. That moment took me out of the "Star Wars excitement" and I never got back to that until Luke showing up to take on Kylo at the end. And then that got distracted by the dirt off the shoulder... it's just disappointing to have the magic cheapened so unnecessarily.

I saw it a second time this morning, and I enjoyed it much more. I think because I was prepared for the parts I really hated (Space Leia and Canto Bright) they didn't bother me as much and I was able to enjoy the parts I really liked more. I still put this below all the Original Trilogy, The Force Awakens, and Rogue One, but I don't really think it's in prequel territory. It was far better than those.

Yeah, R1 is awesome! There's nothing better than watching R1 and ANH back to back...
SeattleAgJr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
truth.

sadly the prequels fell into some of that trap as well, which dates them to a time and place (the reference to New Gingrich and other Republicans, etc).

The original trilogy is timeliness, in spite of the dated looks.

Sad TLJ threw in the Earth-context humor instead of natural humor that flowed out of the story or actions.

Finn only had a lightsaber in TFA, and if you go back and rewatch he gets his ass kicked by a storm trooper and then Kylo Ren. I don't really have a problem with Rey because I've never seen a light saber as sometging only a jedi can have. It's basically judt a sword. Anyone can wield it.

Agreed, and Finn had extensive hand to hand combat training (since he was a child), with those electric batons as a First Order Stormtrooper. And Rey had already shown herself to be able to kick major butt hand to hand with her staff.

I think the next movie will be huge in determining how this one holds up. I think of the second matrix movie which was flawed but had a ton of cool scenes and ideas. And then the third one was so terrible, and paid off none of the good ideas from the second that it made it terrible in retrospect as well. IX needs to kill it, or the franchise is in trouble. (And I really liked TLJ)

My point, using a lightsaber is dangerous. Or, that's what I thought was canon at least. But, then again, Luke just used his with very little issue. Oh well, much ado about nothing.

LOL the amount of people on Texags who see SJW boogeymen everywhere is incredibly hilarious. I imagine people like this waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat because they were caught alone with a vegan in whole foods in their nightmare.
