Tricky situation for Eugene.

There's a possibility Negan sent the girls in with the pill request to test him.

If not, assuming Negans wife turned up dead from poisoning, he would have to believe Negan would look for someone to blame.

Is it me or do all the episodes seem similar?

Another pathetic episode. Bunch of nonsense to string it out to the battle at the end of the season.

TWD has gone from must-see TV to something we can have on in the background while we do other things.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I really liked this episode.... it's also entertaining reading yalls comments, I read the transcripts for the rest of the season, this episode played out well from what I read.

I'm with you. I like a little story every once in awhile to compliment the zombie killing and human struggle.

I liked it too. They sacrificed action for character revealing. I think Dwight and Eugene are a little bit alike...

I am ok with those kinds of episodes but the problem is there has been zero action mixed in with character studies this season. Other than Rick and Mishone mowing down the walkers with the car chains nothing has happened.

I'm just a big fan of the Negan scenes. Easily the top villain of any show I've watched. Dude cracks me up.

I liked this episode as well. Really curious what happens with Eugene, this was a great Eugene episode. Also building up Dwight as well. If Dwight keeps going out solo looking for Daryl I could see him defecting, especially now that his wife is gone.

2) Eugene is turning back to his old ways where he does whatever it takes to survive, which now is taking refuge with Negan and thinking this is his best chance of survival.......Could be an interesting arc to see how Rick & co. would react to this
This is my theory.
I believe Eugene will turn into an formidable enemy of Rick and Co. and Dwight will prove to be a friendly.
I could foresee an escalating conflict and climax between Eugene and Dwight as their paths cross in opposite directions.
Just a theory though.
They could just as easily team up to take down Negan

Did you catch when Dwight was getting on his motorcycle, the camera panned down to his reflection in the pool of blood on the ground? It looked exactly like it could have been Daryl's reflection too.

Count me in as liking this episode after a couple of slow ones.

Eugene's character gets to go right back to his specialty. Lying to survive. Eugene is basically the ultimate con man. Great job by the actor that plays him also.

He's saying what he needs to say in order to survive

This is my thinking too. After meeting with Negan in the first scene, as he walks away he shows a slight smirk as if to say "I got this".

I suspect him to play the long con vs Negan.
I like it. Eugene might be a wimp, and awkward as hell, but he's clever.

Instead of going the "I'm gonna kill yew!" route like Rick, or the "I'm tough" route like Coral, or the "Silent protest" route like Darryl...Eugene's first personal encounter with Negan is telling him exactly what he wants to hear. "I was Negan before I met you".

He's using his skillset to survive.

I think this is way more interesting than Eugene at Alexandria.

I can't help but kind of like the guy. Not necessarily what does, but what he says and how he says it. Dude makes me laugh.

He's great for the role. Here's a clip of him on playing Negan vs his usual good guy role. He drops some f-bombs.

Two things:

1. Didn't Daryl have his crossbow in the last episode? How does Dwight have it now? Am i just misremembering?

2. I busted out laughing when Eugene was taking the stuff off the table after intimidating #16. Felt like the lamp/remote control scene from The Jerk. His line about the stuffed animal was gold..."I don't even know what you call this; I'm gonna call it a gribblygump."

Daryl got a new crossbow from Kingdom Porchdick (don't remember his name - the guy willing to sacrifice Carol). Dwight still has his last one.

Daryl has a different crossbow now. The guy from the Kingdom gave it to him as I recall.

Yeah, I liked that one. The whole "Dr. Smartypants" is making me laugh too. As did the "that is the most badass thing I've ever heard of" line. I just think JDM is nailing this part.

That doctor could have put up a little better fight before diving into that furnace. Like maybe put his hand up and catch it on the top of the opening. Make Negan pull wrestle him into it a little more?
Doc is playing the long con too

Character building/shaping/showing episodes are great, but the writers take it too far... beat you over the head with it. They drag out scenes way too long showing insignificant scenes/movements that don't need to be shown.

Again, I think they think are being artsy and really developing deep characters when in reality, they are just wasting time. We really didn't need to see Dwight at his home for that long. "Oh, look let's give you a really long look at the way the g is written and compare it another note his wife wrote... do you get it? Do you?? you are probably slow, so let's make sure you understand that Dwight has figured out that his wife wrote the "Get out now" note for Daryl... and something else you need to know about Dwight... never mentioned before ever in the show... but Dwight has a bad memory... you might want to remember that... it'll probably come up again later because we shoe-horned that into the show so badly"

I'm gonna disagree with that...I thought the Dwight home scene was really good. Leaving the pretzels and beer was bittersweet.

It's also good to know a little more of his background...they obviously lived really close to Negan's place, so they haven't travelled much during this apocalypse. Plus the whole scene set up for him to lie vehemently that he killed his wife.

I really thought the pickles were going to tie in here and not molten metal. Pickle the walkers and they'll last longer.

So proof that Negan has no idea there was a metal porcupine walker in the trash dump.

I liked the episode. If for no other reason, because Eugene reminded me that there actually was a story plot behind the Yar's Revenge game.

I like Dwight's character. He's a jumbled mess inside - he's obviously not as Negan as he says yet he doesn't just ride and keep riding when he has the opportunity. I look forward to seeing how his end plays out; I can see him being discovered by Negan and made an example of to deepen Eugene's plotline and I can see him playing a part in Negan's end.

Either way, I'm more 'tuned in' to see what happens to him and his zombie apocolypse smokin' ol' lady than 2/3 of the characters that roll w/ Rick.
