Meh. Zombie apocalypse is the least of their worries now.

My how far Rick has fallen. In one single episode, he's come out as a cuckold (admitting he's raising Shane & Lori's kid), a beta male (getting throat-effed by Negan and thanking him for it) AND a stay-at-home mommy (kneeling and making the bed as working parent Michonne comes home from a hard day at the office - as he was making sure to smooth the corners of the sheets, I half-expected Michonne to slap him on the ass and ask what's for dinner).
Ha, nice.

But on a serious note, I think this is what separates Rick from The Gov and Negan...he still has humanity and morality.

We saw the moment when he was holding Lucille at the end of the episode and Negan had turned around to take down the walker...Rick wanted to end it right then. He could have, though he probably would have died, along with his family. The Gov and Negan probably would have if they were in his shoes.

But instead, he's choosing to hold his anger inside and be made into a servant in order to protect the people he loves (Coral, Judith, Michonne) and the group.

So the zombie apocalypse is happening yet they have meticulous accounting of every gun? That's a bit of a stretch
Guns are one of the most important things in this world. How is this hard to understand?

Not sure. I'm WAY out of practice, but it seemed that Daryl was blinking A LOT at Rick out by the truck.

A lot of rumors floating around the internet regarding what Daryl was blinking to Rick.

I think it's funny there's criticism for them not coming up with a military style defense strategy AND for keeping a strict gun and food inventory. :-)

Neegan uterly destroyed the fighters morale. They were literally begging for Coral's arm 3 days ago.

I would probably be pro-military defense; but then again I might be sick of struggling so hard for almost nothing compared to the life I had before. The victory or death option might be pretty appealing by now.

I will say this about he gun inventory since I brought it up a page or so back...

The whole inventory thing is an Alexandrian thing. Rick and his crew certainly didn't maintain a weapons list and lived from one battlefield pickup to the next. The more entrenched, and pacifist Alexandrians were the bean counters and Rick's crew subjected themselves to it (to an extent) when they rolled in. Oddly enough, it's an Alexandrian keeping the inventory and it was an Alexandrian that almost caused another Lucille casualty.

At least they are consistent on the show that every entrenched population does seem to maintain a strict accounting of their assets - and to some degree that is believable... I just wouldn't start braining people over a handgun or two...

but I'm not Negan.

Again, the idea that Rick didnt back down to the Governor, and a Tank!, with far less people but he's going to give away all their guns without a fight ruined the show for me...

Negan and the Saviors arent all that. Rick got ambushed carrying a pregannat lady with like 7 other people when Abe and Glenn were killed. This time he had all of Alexandria behind him, and walls or he also had plenty of opportunity to leave Alexandria if he was that worried.

The group knows they need Guns for more than the Saviors. ie Zombies, Terminus Cannibals, Biker Gangs, Creepy Cop ladies, Wolves etc.
I *think* the response to that would be Daryl, and the whole "no one gets left behind" thing. He keeps saying that no one else can die.

I suspect that the distance from Negan's compound to Alexandria is further than we think. perhaps his guys just recently discovered it as they spread their influence?

Since this is just for fun, let's break this down a bit.

GOOD GUYS
Manpower:
Legacy Alexandria: The ineptitude of the Alexandrians to fight has been well shown over the past 2 seasons. They are soft. Period. Let's assume they have a remaining population of 80. I'd say best case is 20% could be counted on to fight well against a major assault. So 16 folks.

Team Rick: TR has taken it in the shorts big time. Abraham, Glenn, Daryl, Carole, Maggie, Sasha, Morgan are all dead/gone. Left are Rick, One-Eyed Carl, Rosie, and Michonne. 4.

Total Force: 20

Defensive position:
In a word, terrible. Huge area, weak walls (fine for walkers, less so for humans), cover right up to the walls in multiple areas, no way to watch 360 for approach. And once the walls are breached, tons of cover.

Weapons:
Ok, we finally have a positive. Lots of light arms and ammo, plus an anti-armor rocket (assuming anyone can use it without Abe).

BAD GUYS:
Manpower:
Very strong. It looks like they had roughly 60 guys, maybe more. All appear to be tough fighters who can probably withstand fire and would show no mercy if they get the upperhand.

Breaching ability:
Strong. They had 4-6 heavy military trucks, any of which could easily take out the gate and most likely a section of the wall with minimal trouble.

----------------------

BEST CASE:
Team Rick learns of The Saviors approach well enough ahead to get the team in place. Someone is able to fire the rocket, taking out a truck and ~8 guys. TR opens fire as the other trucks back out. Negan is killed. The Saviors move out of range and figure out options, which would be a forward assault (not the smartest, but Negan is dead). I give the good guys 50-50% AT BEST that they could repel the assault.

MOST LIKELY CASE:
Saviors catch Alexandria flat footed. TR attacks, fails to connect with the rocket, Saviors breach the wall immediately. House to house fighting results in a fair number of Saviors killed, but 100% of Alexandria wiped out.

So this hit me this morning, and I think we've been played.

Imagine the Saviors' compound, the closest settlement is the Hilltop (Jesus), then Alexandria (Rick), then finally the Kingdom (Ezekiel). As the Saviors spread out they find new settlements to acquire.

Consider this, each settlement has an ascending level of security. The Hilltop has a wooden wall created by pikes; Alexandria has aluminum reinforced with steel beams from the nearby construction site, what if the Kingdom is actually a fortress or surrounded by cement walls and gives the residents there the feel of a "castle".

Negan first encountered the Hilltop, and beat them easily. Jesus runs to Rick. Then Negan encountered Alexandria, and beat them, Rick and Jesus run to Ezekiel.

Not to point out the obvious, but that 3 levels of strongholds theory fits with the Three Little Pigs theme Negen sets up with that line at the gate.

So, the analogy is like the 3 pigs, the first two houses (locations) are destroyed, but the third holds?

Ultimately all three pigs live. But when the wolf comes down the chimney of the third house (invades), he dies. But his attack does come after he comes knocking and is told to GFY.

This is great and all, but by now we should have all learned that all of this complex analysis is never anywhere close to what the writers end up doing. I foresee Negan meeting his ultimate demise via some lame scenario like he's just about to deal the fatal blow to Daryl when suddenly pouty-Alexandria girl (Coral's little girlfriend) hits him over the head with a lamp or something.

Funny. But, it is a bit strange that she would give a crap about the balloons. Not that I think they'll come to some truly profound use later. Just seemed odd for her character.
