Am I the only one that thinks this show is similar to a soap opera? And if so, why could it not go on forever? I don't really expect too much from it other than entertainment, which it always seems to provide in some measure.. I mean, it's a zombie show for cryin' out loud.

After Negan is disposed of, it's time to get on with the end game. That could still take a few seasons to play itself out, but joining or fighting other pockets of people surviving has definitely run its course.

I've advocated for this a good while myself. The following isn't necessarily a spoiler, it projects how long this series can go based on the storyline....

I did a little looking and it appears that the underlying story this series is based on has not necessarily moved 'on with the end game'. So it begs the question - Will this series divert from it's source material at some point and go it alone toward conclusion? If it sticks to the underlying story at the current rate - I read somewhere it's projected to go 20 seasons as of NOW.
They may jump to future like that, but no way the show sticks around for that long.

I enjoy the show (most of the time) but I would even like to see the end game at least planted in the show. I think between 8-10 seasons would be a good place to call it quits.

Has there ever been a live action show even approach 20 seasons? I know Supernatural is in the double digits and expected to go a few more but that would be absurdly long.

I just hope the writers can at least craft a coherent story how Rick and crew defeat the Saviors. Alexandria and the Hilltop don't even have weapons. The Saviors are well armed and I guess number between 80-100 and they are fully motorized

There has got to be more weapons around. They are close to the DC area and there are several military installations there. All of them have weapons storage and many have ammo storage.

This show is not creative enough to go 20 seasons. You can only repeat the same scenarios so many times before it gets boring. Ratings are already dropping.

Yep. Rick obviously wasn't going to die, and they aren't going to kill the gay guy, so I'm not sure what they wanted there.

Can't wait to see Rick wake up in the hospital surrounded by Lori, Carl and Shane and realize it was all a dream.

Then Lori tell him she's pregnant and they all have a big family hug. But the camera zooms in on Rick's eyes....and we see he knows the truth. He knows the truth...........
YES!!!
Then shift focus to hospital door window to see Shane looking in.

Fade to Black.

/series
And then fade back to light, as the scene opens with Rick and Coral trotting onto a baseball diamond at a local park.... And the first batter up lifts the brim of his cap and reveals himself to be...NEGAN...he winks as he raises Lucille for the pitch....AND AND AND since the pitching sucks, their team name is 'The Walkers'!!!

(Now it can fade back).

I assume there was some kind of thought that the zombies are decomposing and are waterlogged making it easier to stab. But a piece of wood you just broke off an old sign? Doesn't seem likely. At the very least Aaron walked away with some bad splinters.

And there is no way Aaron got out of that without getting bit. None.

Well Glenn fell into a crowd of walkers and rolled under a dumpster without a scratch so anything is possible.

Speaking of which, in the beginning wasn't it a bite or a scratch that could infect you? Seems now it is only bites.

Proof the writing is terrible. The whole premise of the TWD is a "realistic" response to an unreal catastrophe. Realistic emotions, realistic (poor) logic of scared people, realistic dangers (food, potable water, disease.)

Falling in a pond stocked with biters, then swimming 20 yards through those obstacles is dumb. If it were navigable they shoulda just swam to begin with. But the screenwriters do whatever they please.

I don't really see the issue with Aaron diving underwater and navigating around the walkers. He was in danger, but not something impossible to get out of, and he did.

Like GOT, like Breaking Bad, this show needs a "you guys have X seasons left; work to a conclusion".

The product is waning, even with one of the best bad guys in a long time.

Out of all the ways this show could have gotten dumber, Negan getting soft has got to be one of the dumbest. The man has now survived not one but two near killings, and has killed one collateral fat lady. He should have killed Rosita. Sparing Coral makes some sense because it keeps Rick tethered, but Rosita should have died. The man who is all about consequences has apparently decided to give out third chances on assassination attempts? Come on. What happened to this guy???

Nothing. He's killed two of the stronger - but not the strongest ones. So he has credibility.

Now, though if he kills the strong, he has to shepherd a ****load of sheep who are essentially useless.

If he kills a weak one here and there, he's lost nothing manpower-wise and he keeps the stronger ones working for him to protect their weaker loved ones.

But it's a fine line he walks. Kill the right ones and you keep control. Kill the wrong weak ones and then the stronger ones have nothing to lose and fight back.

Who would have guessed that Olivia was the last straw?

Kill Rick's best friend who saved his life and another great guy? That's fine, just be careful. Kill the lady with no ties to Rick who keeps inventory? Now you've done it.
That's kind of the point. He doesn't think Rick will go ape-**** over Olivia, but it will remind him that it could have been Carl.

He was being grabbed by at least one zombie, maybe more. The fact that he was surrounded by them, pulled under, and somehow escaped their grasp unscathed was dumb. He didn't "dive" underwater, he was pulled underwater.
