Should just rebuild at this point. That lineup looks bad.

That's how they do things... Make the playoffs once, blow it all up

Unloaded salary.

Gimenez was in year 3 of a 106 M deal
Naylor was going to get ~14 M in arb then walk. Got the comp pick a year early plus a player.

There was a time when their division was so bad and they got 18 games against everyone in it that they could do this and still make the playoffs. That's not true anymore.

1B market pretty much down to Pete Alonso. Probably goes to the Mets, which means the Mariners lose out on musical chairs.

We kinda are. I won't be shocked if the Yankees, Os, and 'stros end up in a 3 way tie as betting favorites.

Our bullpen needs another arm as well.

My biggest worry is we have zero depth and outside of the second half of 2022 we've had bad luck with injuries

Who does have depth? We get another OF and our depth starts looking pretty good.

You don't think the DBACKS can contend?
if serious about Dbacks, yes they can, but not with bregman haha he just lives there

I didn't know he lived here. I watch them so I hope they do.

So. Everyone get your bets down.

Does Bregman sign for MORE or LESS than 6/156? That's a $26 MM AAV

I'm going with LESS years and total value but a higher AAV. 3/92 with an opt out at year 1, 2 and 3. And then he opts out at year 1 and tries again.

I'm going 3 years 30M AAV with an opt out each year

Similar to the Snell San Francisco deal or the Correa twins deal

I gotta agree. The Yankees cope is kind of wild.

I actually think the Yanks have been wise to avoid Soto and make those moves. Soto already looks out of shape and is pretty meh in the OF. I could see him aging very poorly with that contract.

Boras claims he had an offer higher than the Astros.

Is he lying? Guess we'll find out

Nope. He had one at one point in time. Might still be out there but I don't know

I could too on 5 years. But he's special on offense.

I think they overpaid Fried then finished off the roster with okay short term options. The 2024 Yankees would kick the 2025 Yankees ass.

I know the guy is a fruit, but what about Joc Pederson as a LH platoon option in the outfield?

He finished the season slashing .281/.392/.531 with an OPS of .923 in 335 at-bats against righties, and racked up 22 home runs in the process.

Is he able to play in the OF or just DH?

there's no way Soto can live up to his contract -- especially past the age of 30

what is the annual WAR or OPS expectation for a hitter making $50 MM per season?

7.0 WAR and .950 OPS is not enough for that much money

needs to be 8.0 WAR and 1.000 OPS minimum -- and very few players outside the steroid era can do that year in and year out

2019 was the best Astros team ever.

Gets forgotten since they lost, and the scandal broke a month later.

There is some metric out there that was posted on here back in the day showing that the 2019 Astros and the 1927 Yankees were tied as the best team in the history of the game. They were crazy good/great.

I think $8,000,000/war is considered a decent amount for a free agent. So he needs to be all-star caliber every year

Cubs were also looking at Luzardo. Should help the Framber market if they decide to trade.

Yep. Game 1 I was just ecstatic to be at my first World Series game ever in person… didn't care that we lost because I thought "well we will win it in 5 or 6 now I guess"

Game 7 was the most sad/mad/disappointed feeling leaving the stadium… it was eerily quiet and then it started raining on me walking to the car. Horrible

I remember that sad/quiet feeling like yesterday and will never forget. It started in the 7th inning after Harris gave up the homerun. Stadium just died. We were only down 2, but crowd never got back in it. Sucked the life right out of the stadium. Then the long walk back to the car in the rain was so poetic for the night.
