I never thought of it this way. The Astros gave competitive offers to the players when they hit FA but not the best offers. I wonder if this had something to do with it from Crane's perspective.

Eh...I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Springer was never an option to resign and Carlos and Bregs wanted way more than they're worth and he wasn't going to accommodate the opt outs they wanted on the short term deals.

I am hopeful that this off-season has seen Crane cured of the urge to step in and make big deals happen by himself. We made good moves and didn't overpay for anybody. Hopefully I am not jinxing us by saying this right before Crane announces he traded for Arenado and gave him a big extension.

Marwin Gonzalez 2021 says Hi!

But it could be a factor. To be honest the contracts given out to players that the Astros let walk have not turned out to be good deals. Morton is about the only really one I can think off. Maybe Colin McHugh. It could be just mostly good decision making.
