Yeah not signing 31 year old Bregman to 7 years but getting 33 year old Walker for a 4 year deal would be weird

There have already been reports of him getting OF work. This is a problem you deal with whenever it needs to be dealt with.
Another source said the Astros and Walker are “down the road” though no agreement has been reached yet.

Christian Walker declined a qualifying offer from the DBacks, so if a deal with the Astros gets done, Houston will lose its second and fifth-highest selections in the 2025 draft. However, if/when Alex Bregman signs elsewhere, the Astros will get a comp pick after the fourth round

I think that's one of the dumber rules in baseball is losing 2 picks just because he declined with a different team

If they can move someone else and get a compensatory pick back as part of a deal, then the draft hit doesn't hurt as bad.
