100% lock we were always offering the QO if he didn't sign before FA.

It actually makes it harder for other teams to top our offer. They have to factor in a draft pick to their calculus.

Urquidy had veered off into Brandon Backe / Chris Burke land where we couldn't separate his regular season injuries and struggles from his post-season brilliance.

Guy is 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA in 5 World Series appearances. Winning pitcher in both our wins vs. Hotlanta in '21 WS, won a start vs. the Nationals in '193 WS, and really strong outings vs. MInnesota & Tampa in the '2020 weirdo playoffs. Also pitched 3 great innings vs. Philly in '22 WS.


But... didn't pitch at all last year. had a .529 ERA in 16 games in 2023 and got nuked by Texas in the playoffs.

Very solid-good in 21-22: 21-11 record as a starter. But you can't keep on paying him, McCullers, Javier and Garcia when they are all injured.

This makes me sad for some reason

his offer from the Astros comes with an unspoken number retirement / jersey hanging in the rafters forever

should be a no-brainer (to retire his number) if he plays 13 or 14 years with the franchise and was a member of both championship teams

He values this type of thing a lot.

It's really just going to come down to how much bigger of an offer he gets elsewhere. I'm more confident than I was a few weeks ago.

My eyebrows raised when I heard what Houston is offering him. I think there's going to be a couple teams with a better offer.. but I'm not sure if it's going to be enough to get him to pack up and go elsewhere. We will see.
