I couldn't disagree with the "stand pat" people more than I do. On paper, we have a top 3 MLB offense. With Quintana, we would have a top 3 rotation. That's a damn good combo.

I like the other poker analogy previously posted, but here's mine:

You sat at the table for 12 hours and worked your way up slowly and diligently to make yourself a good amount of money - enough to buy that new Ferrari you want. Could you keep playing and potentially win enough to buy you and the wife matching Lambos? Yeah... but you may lose it all. Leave the table and get the damn Ferrari.

I don't think we should part with Martes and Musgrove

I don't want to get rid of a likely starting pitcher that we will need

One of them is fine to include, but not both

Otherwise I would just stick to stacking my farm.

That's all good and well but what good does that do for you when you don't want to pay top price for top players.

Again here we are discussing Lunhow and his ability to turn top farm talent into top ML talent. At some point he's got to turn them into ML assets.

Is that time now with Quintana? I don't know. That's a tough call.

Not really, glad they got the announcement out of the way.

Only 10 days to go.

MLBtraderumors:

"Thanks to the "dead arm" that slowed Astros righty Collin McHugh earlier this spring, he likely won't be ready for the beginning of the season, manager A.J. Hinch informed Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle (Twitter link). McHugh's absence will deprive the Astros of a quality starter, though they do have a promising No. 6 on hand in Joe Musgrove, who looked like a major league-caliber rotation piece in his 62-inning debut last season (4.06 ERA, 7.98 K/9, 2.32 BB/9)."

Remember when everyone got butt hurt that we traded Brett Phillips to the brewers. Well he's hit about .235 with them and struck out 154 times in 441AB last year. That's in AA. If we trade I see no harm in moving tucker. Moving musgrove in a deal for Quintana doesn't make a lot of sense because it takes away from your pitching staff this year while adding to it. Ideally you move prospects that won't help you this year because every arm is of utmost importance. Keep the staff together you have now and put a big arm in the mix.

Is musgrove our #6? I would have him slotted at #5 and this moves him to a safe #4.

This. Tucker and Martes for Quintana and I think you do it. But I'm leaning towards, Tucker, Paulino, and one more. But the Sox won't do that.

Martes should be untouchable this season. I just don't like giving up the best chance at a future ace.

Tucker, Paulino, and Kemp and throw in a PTBNL. If they say no, stand Pat until they get desperate and we know what kind of year Quintana is having.

I think he said it was a Jugs gun which are known to be "hot". But yeah he is bringing it. If he can stay healthy he may be a solid #3

#4 or 5 if we get Quintana and Musgrove is good

I waffle back and forth on what I'd be willing to give up for another high end starter. I think I'm at the point of going all in for 2017 and would do martes & Tucker plus whatever other throw ins like Moran or Peacock.
Ag_07

I'd give Musgrove, Tucker, other or Marte, Musgrove, other.

But no way am I giving Marte and Tucker. That's our top pitching and position player prospects.

As for the other I'd try to get them to bite on Fischer, Reed, or Moran. Maybe you can sell high with them having nice ST numbers.

And how does it make any sense to say Marte is untouchable to see what he can do and he could help this year? Quintana can help this year and you don't have to wait and see.

*** Spring training stats don't matter, but I'm about to talk about them anyway***

How about AJ Reed, Colin Moran, and Derek Fisher? I especially like seeing that AJ Reed has been doing this with a great BB/K ratio.

D-Fish could be a sneaky guy to start tearing it up at AAA and maybe the White Sox would take him instead of Tucker.

I don't think any of those guys could headline a trade for an "ace" unless they show something big at the big league level.

D Ferguson batted .500
Maybe we could trade him for Quintana straight up

The Astros have a legit shot at a title if they grab another arm for the rotation. Martes isn't a sure thing and won't help them win this year most likely. If it comes to him you move him in hopes that you win it all. Win a WS and it doesn't matter who you give up.

I meant a couple of them packaged with a Musgrove or Paulino. Our triple A team is going to be ridiculously good!

This entire lineup is sick but that 3/4/5 could be the best in the league.

Then think about the role players you have on the bench. A switch hitting super utitlity guy in Marwin Gonzalez. Possibly one of the best defensive outfielders and baserunners in the league in Jake Marisnick. Then there's your backup catcher who hit 30 dingers last year.

You've also got Bregman that could turn out to be a stud. Best 2/3/4/5 combo in the game potentially

So now we're just going to leave out Springer and his Springer Dingers?

Last I checked 124 > 123. He was better than Mr All World Correa.

I think we all see what Springer can do. Home run strikeout guy, hit .250. But correa has so much potential we haven't seen yet
