The issue from the White Sox's side is that they've already acquired five pitchers in the two trades they've made. Do they really want to add seven pitching prospects this offseason? They likely have their sites set on Bregman still, so I seriously doubt a deal gets done.

And to be honest, three top five prospects for a that's really a number two starter is a hefty price.

Unless keuchel bonces back big... He would be our ace.
We're splitting hairs here. He's a top 25 pitcher hands down, probably 15-20 range. 2015 Dallas is better. 2016 Dallas is worse. I would say full season Lance might be the best of them all. Its not crazy to say he'd be our ace.
IDK, Dallas when on is pretty dominate. Not in a wowing way like Lance, but he'll go 9 innings any given start. Lance when on is good for 7 dominating innings, but has yet to find a way to go deep consistently. If you could have a health Lance and Ace Keuchel.... then WOW this will be a fun season. One can hope...

It's funny how we root for these players that make up our team, but we are happy whenever they get paid under what is projected or deserving for them.

I'd pay each of those guys their projected amount in a heartbeat

Quote:

  • George Springer and the Astros avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $3.9MM, reports Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle (Twitter link). Springer has four years left until he can be a free agent and will be arb-eligible three more times due to his status as a Super Two player. That $3.9MM figure checks in a ways south of his $4.7MM projection.

That seems like a steal

Looks like Tyson Ross to the Rangers. Solid pickup for them.

Ehh...The guy missed all of 2016 due to injury. I wouldn't be too worried about him.

With that said him and Gomez have been their off-season splashes.

Projected by some site does not equal deserving of. I seriously doubt Springer, or any player, signs what is deemed an unfair offer. They'd take it to arbitration.

it's remarkable (in a good way I suppose) how long it's taking the Astros best players to reach free agency. Springer will be 31 years old with around 7 years of MLB service before he is a free agent. That's a big plus for the front office

I could see Marwin and Fiers going to arbitration just because of the gaps there.

Pretty sure the Astros have a "file and trial" rule, so the only way to avoid arbitration at this point is if the player agrees to a multi-year extension (like Gattis did last year).

Lefty/righty WGAS if he bumps Fiers ass out of the rotation.

And it seems to me that the Sox are wanting more bats, which we are unwilling to give up.

A's will take two of our young pitchers and turn them into studs and we will have the opportunity to trade for them again in 4-5 years.

Dude finished 3rd in Cy young 2 years ago. I'd like to think he has something left as a 27 year old. Plus he would have to be cheaper than Quintana

Im not a fan of one year rentals (or would we have him til 2020 due to arbitration?), but he is only $3.58mil this year. That is super cheap if he can pitch like any of his previous years besides this past year.

He's controlled via arbitration for the next three seasons, and his 2016 struggles actually suppressed his salary in his first trip through the arbitration process. Gray agreed to terms with the A's on a one-year deal worth $3.575MM last Friday, so he'd be affordable for any team and bring legitimate front-of-the-rotation upside to his new environs.

He's under control for through 2019. You're looking at a very cheap Ace-level guy for the next 3 years.

Cheap in dollars, but what about players? As far as asking price, seller only sees 2015 performance and buyer 2016 performance.

Or maybe you start kicking the tires on other guys to see if the White Sox come back and make a deal happen.

He won't even be able to pitch until May at the earliest and very likely June/Julyish. His slider is nasty, but TOS is a tough one to come back from. This year will likely be a rehab year when he finally does pitch.

I had to look that up; I thought he was referring to Ross Stripling and not Tyson Ross.
