Prospects should never be untouchable. There's always a price.

This is my problem with Jeff LunhowQuote:
- The Astros prefer not to move upper-level prospects in their search for rotation upgrades, GM Jeff Luhnow tells MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. Houston has been asked about top prospect Francis Martes on numerous occasions, McTaggart writes, though Luhnow downplayed the possibility of dealing the right-hander. "The players we're staying away from are the players that are probably going to start the year on the big league club and are key parts of the 2017 plan," said the Houston GM. "Martes is a very valuable player, and very valuable players that are close to the big leagues get asked about a lot. That's no different with him. It would take something significant for us to move him." McTaggart also notes that outfield prospect Kyle Tucker is "generally considered untouchable."
Then who the hell is expecting to deal if he wants a top of the rotation stud like Sale, Quintana, or Archer? At some point he needs to take a leap of faith and turn prospects into assets.
I may be mistaken, but while these guys are solid prospects he's crazy if he thinks they can be legit contributors in 2017. Yeah they me on the squad but they'd be rookies with no ML experience, and I'm not seeing them as major pieces till at least 2018.

Who needs to give up top end guys for Sale, Quintana, or Archer when we can not give anything up and get guys like Fister, Fiers, and Morton.

Maybe the Sox are asking for more. Jeff could have said those things to inflate the value of the prospects in order to need less of them in a deal. Some of you get so worked up about a comment when you have no idea of the full details that are going on in the background.

Yeah...That's not happening
Just throwing it out there as a thought for discussion. I also think it was worth noting as it's some good insight to why a deal hasn't been done.
Bottom line is that Lunhow thinks VERY highly of our prospects.

Looks like we signed Cuban lefty Cionel Perez after all (for $2mm instead of $5mm)

If we knew EE could be had for 2 yr 45 M then I bet we would have passed on Beltran. Right? Geez it's not too late. Go sign him. He can come off the books before he gets old & we have to pay other guys.
