This move would seem a lot better if they didn't tease us with EE first.
I actually don't mind this move at all. If he's good then we get a good player for one year and don't have to be committed to him for longer. We also have the opportunity to trade him at the deadline. If he's bad we're only out 16 million and it doesn't affect our money going into next year. Assuming this doesn't foreshadow anybody being traded, this is the best-case scenario for signing Beltran
He has a full no-trade clause
If he matches last year's numbers, I won't hate it.
Makes you wonder if we were ever close to signing Encarnacion or if his side was leaking info to up his price.

For whatever reason, I feel like we are less likely to trade one of our core players now.

And since its only a one year deal I don't think we trade for Sale. No sense in trading away a Bregman or Springer type when Beltran won't be around after this year.
But doesn't fill no trade clause mean he has the last say?
