And still far below where we should be for our market size

I doubt we're done and it's going to grow very quickly in a few years.

Lunhow on 790 says 1-2 moves left to make, but he can't legally talk about reddick yet so I'm not sure if that includes him or not

Digging around on #1 and #2 pitchers but they are asking for a lot

Lefty for the pen is probably the top priority right now, at least in terms of what's attainable. Top of the line starter just doesn't seem that likely this offseason, but we shall see.

At least Betts didn't win MVP. Would be pissed to see the east coast bias pop up.

Had some fun with 2016 platoon splits.

Yuli's wRC+ is a really small sample size. He's an everyday player who will very likely hit LHP very well.

That lineup vs righties is freaking potent!

Not to mention Correa is still nowhere near his prime, George can still get better, Gurriel might be better, and Bregman will for sure get better.

Good article on our signings thus far this off season:

Aoki, Morton, McCann, Reddick

Here we go

Quote:

Compare these two situations:

 • Brian McCann for $24 million over two years, with a third year option, all for the cost of Abreu and Guzman.
 • Jonathan Lucroy for 1-1/2 seasons in exchange $5.25 million, the MLB #14 prospect, the MLB #51 prospect, and a player to be named later. Oh, and they get to put up with the headeache of Jeremy Jeffress also.

The Best Trades For All 30 Teams

Quote:

Tampa Bay Rays trade RHP Chris Archer to the Houston Astros for RHP Frances Martes, OF Kyle Tucker, RHP David Paulino, 3B Colin Moran and OF Tony Kemp.

Sticking with the AL West, the Astros have made it clear they're going all-in after missing the playoffs in 2016. On Thursday, they acquired Brian McCannand signed Josh Reddick after already claiming Norichika Aoki on waivers. They need to make one more big splash. How does this look?

RF George Springer
3B Alex Bregman
2B Jose Altuve
SS Carlos Correa
C Brian McCann
DH Evan Gattis
1B Yulieski Gurriel / A.J. Reed
LF Josh Reddick
CF Jake Marisnick / Teoscar Hernandez

SP Dallas Keuchel
SP Chris Archer
SP Collin McHugh
SP Lance McCullers
SP Mike Fiers

Archer will cost a ton in prospects, even coming off a mediocre season, as he's signed for five more season at an incredible discount. The Astros are giving up three of their prospects in Martes, Tucker and Paulino, plus two useful role players in Moran and Kemp. The Rays need depth, but this package may still not be enough.

And the PTBNL (Ryan Cordell) was a top 15 prospect in the Rangers organization, depending on the list you want to use. The three prospects the Rangers sent are currently 1, 4, and 17 on the Brewers' prospect list.

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=mil

The Astros and Rangers have stocked the Brewers' farm system quite nicely.

I say you hold on to Martes. He's the one you leave out of the deal. Tucker would be a loss, but he's still low in the system. Paulino is almost MLB ready. There's no spot for Moran, and also there is another 3B prospect behind him. And unloading Kemp opens it us for Teoscar Hernandez.

If we trade two top 5 prospects for Chris Archer, I'll be pissed. He had an awful season last year and not an ace. The Astros need an ace.

If you try to trade for an ace, the price would be even higher than the one listed above. Going to be an interesting couple of months

Yeah, you're not getting an ace for cheaper than what's been listed. My guess is that the Astros bank on Dallas being a true ace again in 2017, and they look for a solid #2 instead.

If the White Sox are going to have a fire sale, back the truck up for Abreu and Quintana. Pipe dream, I know, but solves a lot of problems.

Absent that - go hard after Quintana anyway. Signed through 2018 for cheap and then club options for 19 & 20. My only concern is the HR numbers, but I can live with that.

Thats a great package, but none of those are sure things. I wouldn't be completely against it. Martes could be the next big thing, but there's no guarantee, and I trust our drafting and international signings to replenish the farm.

But I wouldn't be mad if we turned it down either.

I think Archer is much better than last year but not quite as good as his "ace" years.

I'd like to keep martes and tucker
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I would not want to give up both martes & tucker. I would be willing to throw in more types like Kemp or Hernandez. Big league ready but just how good will they ever be. Most trades that are worth a damn hurt a little on both sides. I think Archer will bounce back. He's the type of guy we need.

The White Sox are under tremendous pressure to "win" this trade (if they make it) and the Astros are one of a few teams that have the kind of haul that can satisfy this. Having Theo and what did he did to a few teams will be the measuring stick.

It would have to be a really interesting trade to not include Bregman from their side.

You think we should pay a guy more when we don't have to?
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah we'll pay him when he's due.

He's playing under a contract he agreed to and signed. It's the teams reward for finding a diamond in the rough.

Sucks for him but the front office is doing nothing wrong by not paying him.
