Astros and Rangers have the same amount of playoff wins this year. Weird.

The Rangers' starting pitching was horrendous. They gave up 6,5, and 5 earned runs, and only Yu pitched past the fourth inning. Beltran and Lucroy batted .182 and .083, respectively. Gomez chipped in a .154 average. What a terrible time for their luck to run out.

And I'm sure Canada loved the ending. Only thing better would have been a walk off from Bautista with an even better bat flip.

My now-departed momma would tell me not to find joy in the suffering of others.

But, dang, that was fun. Sorry, mom.

Trade deadline looks a lot better now.

Gave up jack crap. Rangers gave up 3 of their top 10 to see those guys completely crap the bed in the playoffs.

Then to see your season ended in a 1-run loss in which Odor makes an error (guy's a butcher at 2nd base) to let one of the main guys they hate on the Jays score the game winning run has got to just sting so hard.

You must be mistaken. We have been assured that rat is a far better second baseman than Altuve.

That's around a $20.8M increase from what these guys made in 2016. There are still some very affordable players here compared to their comps on the open market, though.

George Springer +$4.2M
Collin McHugh +$4.1M
Mike Fiers +$3.8M
Dallas Keuchel +$2.3M
Will Harris +$2.0M
Evan Gattis +$1.9M (Astros have a $5.2M team option so using that number)
Marwin Gonzalez +$1.6M
Jake Marisnick +$0.6M
Brad Peacock +$0.3M

Also, here's what we've already freed up, or could possibly free up from last year's opening day roster. The total savings here is around $59.2M.

Colby Rasmus -$15.8M
*Carlos Gomez -$9.0M
*Scott Feldman -$8.0M
Doug Fister -$7.0M
Pat Neshak -$6.5M
Luis Valbuena -$6.1M
Jason Castro -$5M
*Josh Fields -$0.9M
*Erik Kratz -$0.9M

*Already gone

When you factor in the Gurriel signing, additions from the farm, and variances in arbitration, we should have somewhere in the neighborhood of $30M to spend for next season, whether that be through free agent signings or a trade. And that's just to maintain. If the right pieces are available, we'll surpass last seasons salary total.

One of Cespedes, Encarnacion, or Bautista needs to be signed. There's not any good SP free agents out there, so improve the lineup and maybe sign another bullpen piece to super charge the BP.

Agreed. Improve the lineup, then sign a lefty bullpen arm in FA.

Hope for some improvement from Keuchel, less injuries from McCullers, and a new addition from our young guys.

Keep exploring trade options for SP, but you can't rely on that.

hard to believe that Springer won't be a free agent until after the 2020 season. Will be 31 years old already

Those college guys sometimes work out this way. If I was him, I'd be looking for an extension with an opt-out period from the Astros.

Had he taken the Astros deal, he would have been called up earlier, still been a free agent in 2021, and would have made $23M.

In the end, I think George will have made the right choice. Singleton did, too, by taking the deal.

Honestly, I'd rather see someone like Cespedes or Bautista...I'd be ok with giving our young firstbasemen another shot. And if they done work out, you've got marwin or valtron.

Yeah, I'm starting to believe that too. His injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the ballclub and for him. Dude was raking when he went down.

I really wish we could get him back. This lineup needs LHBs really bad.

In a great season, Valbuena is going to bat around .250 and hit 20-25 HRs. AJ Reed has to fill that void. Rarely does a guy have his level of success at every level along the way and not become a serviceable big league hitter. We don't need an All-Star performance. Just serviceable with a little pop.

I think AJ should take this fall off and dedicate himself to a workout routine. I'd really like to see him show up to spring training 25 pounds lighter. He'd likely be a better hitter if he got some of that midsection out of the way.

I agree with this completely. He's the missing LHB we need.

AJ Reed just turned 23 and had his first year in the majors... I hope people arent already giving up on him.

Not even close. Even big Jon Singleton is one to not give up on. Stranger things have happened with LH 1st basemen figuring things out later on in their career. The good thing about Singleton is that he's got plenty of time to figure it out with his contract situation. I know that's also bad, but I'm saying it's less likely that he moves on to Detroit and then it clicks ala JD Martinez.

I'll be the pessimist.

I have indeed given up on Jon Singleton. AJ Reed is a ways off from being given up on but I don't like what I see. I think Tyler White and Preston Tucker have a better chance of getting their shlt together than Reed.

The dude is out of shape, not good at defense, no confidence at the plate, and was no where close on an alarming number of ABs. It always seems like he steps into the box down 0-2.

Regarding AJ Reed, I won't say I've given up but I'm concerned. I have given up on Jon Singleton.

Oh if I had to put $ on it, I would clearly bet that Jon Singleton never becomes a productive MLB hitter, but you have to think that 1 of those 4 is at least capable of Mitch Moreland type numbers or better.

Some gold from the Rangertte off season thread....

Quote:

If I ruled the world, I'd move Odor to LF, give Profar the 2B job (with Alberto as insurance), and put Mazara on 1st.
Quote:

Does Odor have the arm for outfield?

Yes that's regarding the guy who lost them the game because he couldn't get it over to 1B from 2B.

Here are the renderings in case someone else needs a refresher.

And I hate to see it go as well, but this is gonna be a pretty cool area.
