I'm on a ferry in Mexico right now and they have the game on. The boat went nuts when Egypt got their second goal. It's been pretty silent since. Apparently they don't like Argentina here.

With the US out, I'm now firmly team "anyone but France" and I think ARG has the best shot. Norway is the clear #1 for me but I don't think they can matchup with France' speed.

*ETA* - I also don't like how Belgium players acted after the win. I thought they took some shots at US Soccer and our players unnecessarily. Our players didn't talk **** before the game (at least that I saw).

i've had this game on really low volume while a lot people have been coming into my office for work stuff... great for Argentina to score those late goals, but it sure looked like Egypt got royally Fd on their disallowed goal, didn't they? the VAR called a foul 100 yds away in the beginning of the buildup that the ref allowed live-- it was soft and not an oblivious mistake by the center ref IMO -- but i don't know - i was only half watching.

Argentina is just as unlikeable as France.

Norway would be my choice, France an acceptable second choice. Belgium, fine. Someone on this side of the bracket.

Agree, that goal should have been allowed.

However, Argentina was so obviously the better team and it was just a matter of time before some of those of dangerous attacks resulted in goals.

It would have been a miracle for Egypt to hold on and win, they couldn't sustain any kind of pressure or even hold possession of the ball.

Reversing that goal was absolutely the right call in this age of VAR review. That whole sequence leading to the goal was a direct result of the foul.
