That's bad luck - looks like he landed right on the top of the ball that forced his studs back up into the shin. Especially since they just got hacked by half the Mexico team in the last 2 minutes

It was deserving a red, but it is a weird look to go red there when you haven't cautioned any Mexicans for several infractions worthy of a yellow.
