Im not upset. Rather we get a legit W. If Xabi shifts Chelsea to his 3-4-2-1, Rogers is a better fit as their LAM than he would be in out setup.

Still rumors floating around that Real is gonna move Vini and buy Olise. Vini has one year on his deal. He is a potential headache but a significantly better W option that Rogers.

In regards to the Rogers deal. I'm not super bothered by. He was never worth that price and never understood where he really fit for us.

I do know though that Arteta really wanted him and will be pissed he didn't get the player he wanted. We also still need identify a good target and get them in and its going to be expensive regardless. Mikel is going to be annoyed because he said he wanted a fast transfer market at the end of the season and we've watched target after target move elsewhere. I want to see the club take the next steps and it hasn't really happened. There is no doubt with all the news this summer that we've missed what was our #1 target.

I do find it weird that all the news suggested he wanted the Arsenal move and now its being reported he wanted CFC only.

Diomande - would be interesting but he seems 100% bought into PSG
Barcola - think we may have backed off. Curious if that was because we thought we were gonna finalize Rogers or because we decided he wasn't worth the ask?
Nico Williams - very interested to see where this goes. Arteta liked him alot last summer. Wasn't super impressed in the WC but ticks the needed skillset boxes and is young enough to still improve
Alajbegovic - not seen much of him. What little I've seen hasn't been anything special. Though he does seem to be in high demand across 2-3 different leagues.
Godts - this is the guy I want. Bit is a "role of the dice" considering this was his breakout season and it was in the Dutch league but if you watch him play he has the basis to be a very good if not elite W.

Getting players away from Athletic Club is not easy.

They have to drive a hard bargain because their player pool to replace them is limited.

Seeing claims that PSG have backed away from Diomande over valuation issues with Leipzig and are switching focus to Kroupi.

Like Diomande more than Rogers and if rumors are accurate he would be cheaper. My biggest concern is a) Bundesliga to EPL transition isn't always smooth for attackers and b) while he plays both sides, he plays more on the right and the vast majority of his production is from the right.

Rumored to have a 77m GBP release clause. If accurate, buying him isn't the problem it would be his 300-350k/wk salary and convincing him to leave Spain, which I've heard he is more open to now.

the athletic put out some additional info on losing out on rogers (which I'm totally fine with). we stuck to our 80M value and wouldn't waver as others have mentioned here, but what mostly appealed to him was that chelsea mentioned they'd be flexible in playing him in multiple positions, whereas we sold him on being a left winger only. he got cold feet with our flirtations with other big names and took the flexibility and money...good for him. I'd rather land one of these other names anyhow. Rogers had a couple of good plays all WC, and a lot more so so or even bad ones. 117M for that guy is absurd IMO.
