Great way to start the season, with the Shield setting the tone. Tzolis is looking better than I hoped and I had high expectations.

Martinelli being left out tells me we have a good buyer for him lined up, or maybe we have a LW coming in. It's a strange one. I'm not opposed to keeping him as a backup LW. I think he would be a better backup option on the left than Madueke is on the right.

I turned the TV on at halftime, saw the score, and was like lol. MU did virtually nothing in the second half.

Yeah, they finished 6th in the Championship with a +4 goal differential and haven't massively upgraded the squad. Their big signings were young guys they probably hope to sell in a couple of years if things don't go well.

I became a fan around 2010 and although frustrated, I never got that feeling. Probably the closest was Arteta's second year and I worried that even he couldn't fix the ****ty culture of the team.

Interesting that he supposedly ok with Saudi after saying he only wanted top clubs in Europe. Must have offered a strong salary to change his mind.

With 15' left knew MC would not be allowed to lose this match.
The first MC goal legit - not one B'mouth marked Guehi on the set piece headed…way too easy.
The reversed offsides in added time a bit trickier, but will always go the way of MC.

With Nelli - club really needs to sell something and at least he will not be in the PL.
Not as much as I would have liked but it opens things up and not sure he was going to play much.
Best to Nelli - guy will run his a$$ off.

I thought Eze showed yet again on Friday that he doesn't want to nor is particularly well-suited for playing on the left wing. He kept ending up in the middle even though he ostensibly was our left winger after coming on for Tzolis.

You play him with Calafiori and we'll have no one on the left 20 yards of the pitch.


I don't really understand how we were going to afford Vini Jr. if we are this in need of selling Martinelli. I suppose if we got Vini that would have meant Martinelli, Nwaneri and maybe one other player would have been for sure sold.

I think thats where us supposedly shopping MLS came from. I know the club said they weren't looking to sell, but I think they called up Chelsea and possibly others and asked what they'd pay for MLS on short notice.

I think Arteta feels we are one elite LW away from being a perfect club and they seem to be willing to wreck shop to get there. Personally im glad they weren't successful with Vini or even with signing somebody like Julian Alvarez (assuming thats dead). Just seems like it would be sacrificing a bit of our future for 2 years of CL title hopes. And in the meantime jeopardizing our culture.

I really like our chances to roll this season. Seems like 2nd on will be an open fight and a big club or two will swing and miss and struggle mightily even after spending big.

I saw that post about fee demand also.

There is no way Arsenal pays 150 for Alvarez. I can see a tiny sliver of possibility AFC sign him but that # is insane.
There are legitimate criticisms about VG, but the guy runs like crazy and scored 21 goals. He made a sizable contribution and cost ~1/3 the fee.

And "No, Phil", I would not pay 120 for him either.
