No bait. I just undo the twist tie that holds the haves together on one side. They have a sort of interlocking prong and loop on the other that acts like a hinge, and you just crack it open like a big egg and dump the snake out.
They really can't get at you through the mesh cage, but you do need to hold it carefully as if they did bite just right you might be exposed to a fang tip. I just keep an eye on the snake and make sure it isn't in a position to get a shot at my hands, by holding it only be the very ends.

Little guy that did not rattle until six feet away.
That's actually pretty far away. A lot of times they"ll wait until you are right on top of them.

Pine trees and rattlesnakes... location?
Never really seen one up close with the exception of the one at the chicken.
Outside of Wheatland Wyoming. At camp Laramie peak which is a Boy Scout property.
Saw this guy crossing my street (western Travis County). When we got out to show my kids, he hissed up a storm and puffed up. First time seeing one of these in person.

brs4688 stole my thunder. We just arrived at The Badlands National Park today and I have been trying to find a Prairie Rattlesnake all day. Oh well!

Well most snake bites are to hands and lower legs so maybe just stick said hands and feet into cracks and crevices!!
The tiny human and I got to play with a nice little ribbon snake this afternoon.

I just got back from the Black Hills area. I was surprised at what I saw, never knew it was so pretty. I went fly fishing in the Spearfish Canyon area a couple of days. My fishing guide told me there were timber rattlers in the Canyon. Thank God I didn't see any. I swear, everytime I fly fish in New Mexico I see a rattlesnake. Despite this thread, still not a fan.

Definitely not 100% on this, but I believe it is a mottled rock rattlesnake with a bit of an odd pattern, but don't quote me. This one looks like a job for 12fmane...

12th man ag won't do the humble brag business so I'll help him out....
he's on epic vacation to that part of the world. At least one of his neighbors is jealous and hopes to do the same vacation within the next 2 years (except mine will include some fishing). But here's where it gets better....his wife put together their whole itinerary...she even sent the schedule to their kids on their phones
so the reptile place wasn't his idea but his wife's....pretty cool IMO!!!
p.s. 12th man ag....I'll help you out by keeping an eye on your pool water level this time!!

At least give me credit for Reptile World! That was not on Mrs. 12th Man Ag's original itinerary! Thanks to some persuasion from me and my 10-year old, Reptile World made the list.
Quite a collection of snakes and so many I had never heard of. All the standard Texas venomous snakes (except the coral), in addition to green & black mambas, gaboon viper, multiple cobras, anaconda, pythons, at least 10 different rattlers, hognoses, garter snakes, and so many more!
And thanks for making sure we don't flood the neighborhood!
