One kid was standing on top of the tire when another yelled "SNAKE". I only took it seriously because another teacher had mentioned they found one earlier this year. Got the kiddos off to the side and checked the tire...yep, there he is.

Off topic, but what were you doing at a substation in Childress? I only ask cause our company is actually working on a transmission line from Clarendon - Childress. Just curious if you're in the line of business too and see if we might have crossed paths.

Watching the 1st episode of Guardians of the Glades. In the opening scene, the main character wrestled a python in the swamp and bit the snake on the tail. Why not use an edged weapon if killing nuisance animal?

Probably not. It is a defense mechanism. It's a pretty effective tactic. Sometimes the predator eats the vomited prey, sometimes it just shocks the predator, and it makes it easier for the snake to escape. I've never seen one come back after throwing up their meal.

Update: Apparently this guy was "on campus", about 20 yards from where I found the other guy, a few weeks ago. I guess we should have painted the tail to see if it was the same guy coming back to feast on kiddos...

Had a speckled kingsnake on my porch in Tyler last week. Daughter took a pic and I have a buddy that's a big snake guy. He id'd It and said he would stock his yard w them if he could. Lots of copperheads around here. I just moved him off to the azaleas in the front yard

Rat snakes get that big? I thought it kinda looked like a rat snake but thought it was too large.

I thought it might have been a bull or king snake but have no I dea what I'm talking about...

They are one of the largest snakes in Texas. Specimens over 5 feet are not uncommon. The largest recorded specimen was 7ft 2in.

I've snagged two rats 4-5 feet over the years. Not common but I'm not surprised either. Pick one up and get skunked and you will never forget that stink.
