Double G in Georgetown is only 20 miles from me. Although I went in there once a few years ago and didn't get a very welcoming vibe, so I don't care too much to go back.

Looks like Nocked and Loaded in Lampasas has Prime (even though they don't list it on their website). They have all the big ones except Bowtech (Hoffy's in Lampasas has Bowtech though). I was hoping to find a shop with the largest set of options so I could try a lot of them.

BBQ backpacking meals are coming along nicely...not my best work on the brisket, but still pretty dang good. Little over 1lb of brisket and some Stubbs spicy in the dehydrator. Interested to see how it turns out

Brisket and sauce dehydrated real nice. Sauce came out like a fruit roll up consistency (expected) so freezing it to break apart into the meals....going to make a meal for lunch and will give a full review.

Cooked it up using the actual gear for a real test run (stove, ziploc, etc). Turned out better than I imagined. Really damn good. I was worried how the brisket would rehydrate, but it came out tender and not chewy at all. I think it helped I added some breadcrumbs to it prior to dehydrating as that's supposed to help.

Not sure on how long the shelf life is. I did my best to trim all the fat out and rinse the meat a few times so that it won't go rancid for a while. I also weighed it. 1/2 bag of potatoes and 1/4lb of dehydrated brisket plus sauce was about 4.6oz and 600ish calories. Mountain house propacks are 4.9oz and about 500ish calories for reference. So pretty efficient

Also I've got enough for 3 meals left. I'd like to keep one for shelf life testing....but the two others I could be convinced to mail to any brave souls who want to try one.

I can see burnt ends. I see German style sauce, which might dehydrate better. I see lengua taco medley with lengua bits, blue corn tortilla strips and cilantro. I see hot wangs(not too hot). I see lean pork butt chunks... Or pulled. I see things I ain't even seen yet.

Thinking of keeping it simple for the next one with "Venison Strokin' Off" (venison stroganoff if you didn't get the joke). Maybe I'll start a line of "Dirty Mountain Man Meals" to go with the Texan BBQ Parfait...dehydrating strawberries now since I'm on a roll

Man it's August but I'm too distracted with work to get excited. On top of finally getting over some upper respiratory bull**** I've enjoyed for most of the summer, now with the heat, some regular fatigue is setting in. Don't worry...I've mainlined caffeine before, and am prepared to do much worse to get to the top of the mountain.


I've been pouring arrows through this bow. It will be effective, but I am not in love. Going back to the shop to make some adjustments after I feel like I've got the string broken in. It's pretty though!

I don't see why it wouldn't

Maybe rehydrate dinners with whiskey and breakfasts with coffee just to cover all your bases....or on some days just rehydrate both meals with whiskey

I did find last year I enjoyed mixing granola with protein powder for a quick and easy breakfast. Now that I've got the dehydrator going, I'll add some fruit to that mix.

Anybody have a good recommendation on shooting sticks?

I've used a buddy's setup before, but haven't bought my own yet. The set I used was essentially an adjustable bipod that had a cradle at the top for your rifle's forearm.

I have the primos tripod and I love it. A little bulky but I hunt high CO muleys with it and works great.

I'm more than a little annoyed that Shayne has not provided us with pictures of the new rig yet. Maybe if I post pics of my current set up he'll get the hint.



I've been shooting enough lately that I'm fighting the ego urge to crank the bow down for all she's worth even though I know I don't need to. But FASTER and HARDER damn it! ...but that 70.5# is buttery smooth right now.

My target bow is a Prime. One of the nicest feeling backwalls around in my opinion. The double cams are supposed the eliminate cam lean, which is tough to tune out of some bows (like my Bowtech...how many twists was that...?)
