Better discussion point...

Working on narrowing down a few places to check out next month.
Sangre cristo, weminuche, hermosa creek, and a couple non wilderness areas I've been to before.

And one day in NM.

Maybe I spent all my mojo points on expert stalking abilities

Now see... This is a talking point. You're a stealthy mofo and that has been overlooked and undersold.

I think you need a little more tracking effort... Time stamps don't lie

Anyone ever been to a Full Draw film tour showing?

Was planning on going to put up/check cameras/scout leaving Thursday night, but the Full Draw film has a showing 45min away Thursday evening. Trying to decide if it is worth changing plans to leave leave Friday morning..

Maybe you stink like a pig and they don't recognize you as a threat?

had a guy tell me a little about the sangre del cristo. I've been point banking colorado, but think i'm going to bite the bullet and hire an outfitter on the eastern plains my first go round and try to get a big un. Sitting on 6 points. Think I need 6 or 7 to draw. I probably won't be in position to go for another couple years, but will have the points to do so. I am hoping to book with Scott Limmer. After that, my plan is to only accumulate several points and start hunting a unit that is more typical colorado country. Would love to go archery above timberline. Here's to dreaming.

I know most people on here probably don't think of Eddie Bauer when they think of hunting clothing, but they have some great down/puffy layers. Super lightweight insulation that can be had on clearance for much cheaper than your big name hunting brands.

I often use an 800fill vest or jacket underneath a Sitka wind-proof layer. Hike to the top of the mountain mostly nekkid, then when you get on top pull that down jacket out of your pack, put it on, and put a windproof shell on over the top. Toasty warm for glassing on a windswept rocky outcrop at 12,000. For me these are always going to be mid/under layers so I'm not too worried about color since it'll have camo over the top of it. I really like the MicroTherm StormDown series.

Eddie Bauer Clearance Sale

Plus another 40% off those clearance prices if you use the Code: CAMPER at checkout. Most of the outerwear is 40-50% off, plus an additional 40% off with that code.

Thanks. My wife now hates you. I just ordered the blaze orange reversible 800 down vest. $180 vest for $50.

Smart husband would have ordered something for her as well...

For those of you using/considering Jimmy Tarps, what bug netting are you using? I have the carbon trekking poles already, but would need some netting.

My plan was to figure out how to get something like this into it with maybe some modifications to make the netting lighter. Possibly some method of glued velcro or tying the net to the trekking poles.

Netting would definitely be neccessary...I still have nightmares of mosquito swarming outside my tent on a backpacking/scouting trip last summer. I'll never forget bugspray again and not sure how I avoided west nile. 100s of bites.

A smart husband knows better than buying a damn stitch of clothing for a wife. It's lose, lose. Either it cost too much or you purchased too big of a size (God help you if it fits and it usually does).

I actually asked her if she wanted anything. I got the "let me guess. For your elk hunt".

That's what I get for trying to be nice.

Gotdangit after I searching for I don't know how long and finding a boot that my feet loved and I could wear all day and run faster and jump higher in...Danner has discontinued the 8" gila.

I've been working in mine nearly everyday since last fall and they are subsequently pretty worn. I was planning on ordering a new pair next month to break them in, hunt in them, and then work in them till next summer. But no.

I think there is enough life in the ones I have now to survive this season. I think. It may require some JB Weld.

I ain't happy.

Scour the innerwebz and buy all of them in your size. Keep all the new ones in the box until you wear out the previous pair. #Winning

Damn I bought the Wyoming app like two weeks ago, oh well still worth it. Trying to convince the wife that she needs the elite membership for real estate research (owns real estate company) and that she should buy it on the company card.

I'll be doing a lot of scouting this summer, but it's a much closer drive for me! I see many evenings after work perched on a hilltop or bench in my near future

In 2 weeks I'll be spending some time cutting trails for drop camps to the Weminuche.

First week of July I'm going to spend a couple days fishing/scouting as close to a certain headwater as I can get. Hopefully will find some promising prospects.

I'll hit it much harder in September

It's been 2 weeks.

What's the trail report?

Scouting trip #1 in the books. My buddy bailed due to wedding plans so went solo. Finally got to retrieve my game camera I put up last archery season that I couldn't get back to due to a fire closure. Covered about 27 miles total, put up a few more cameras, mapped out better routes in/out, picked out future camping spots, checked out a few new areas, had permanently wet feet due to snow melt, tested out a new water filter and stove, and caught some brookies...All in all, a solid and much needed weekend. Here's some highlights.

Got to the trailhead Thurs Night as the sun set

Hoping due to fire closure he survived the season...Till next year

Brookies on Sunday Morning to end the trip

Cell phone coverage is a bad thing. It means people can bother you whenever they want.
