Not underserved.

I need to get a GoPro. Would have made for some funny footage. Had some babies nearly walk between my legs while I was waiting on the big ones.

Do you have satisfaction?

Bummed I couldn't find one of the big ones despite them being fatally hit. No doubt they are piled up in an inconvenient spot.

Hell yes I do. That's borderline erotic, even without the backstory.

Now that we've gotten that hanging chad outta the way, it's time for some gear upgrade talk.

Cutting pack weight has become a minor obsession of mine. My Timber Creek mummy bag weighs ~ 4.5 lbs and its nothing special. Ive pretty much decided to go with a Revelation Apex (quilt) from Enlightened Equipment. It's 2 lbs, seems like it will be much more efficient, easier to pack, and more forgiving if wet. Anybody have one?

Gettin closer...

So my dad kilt an elk last fall with a rifle. Got it mounted and it just came in...but he don't have a spot ready for him yet. Well heck dad I can use it as a place holder until I get mine back next spring. Got a spot intended just for an elk in fact.

I had originally intended to put a whitetail or a muley on his left but he dwarfs everything so badly I don't know what I'm going to do.

I'm going to kill another elk and put them all up there I reckon.

I used an EE quilt last year and it didn't not agree w me. It was rated 15 degree and qcore on my pad wasn't bad (cant remember specific). I ended up having to sleep in every stitch of clothing i brought.

I just need to learn to sleep on my back all still like dracula.

I think maybe there are only 4-5 people still clicking on this thread. You guys are doing a helluva job keeping it on page 1.

I'm going. I've been going in WY for the past 6 years, so I was excited to see there was a central TX chapter!

Last year in Colorado archery season I ended up sleeping in all my clothes, with 20* synthetic bag. I even tried to use my JetBoil occasionally to get warm. It was sleet, snow, and rain the first three or four days of the season.

I've been planning a backcountry sleep system overhaul. I purchased a Thermorest Xtherm Max for a pad. I think it will help a lot. I was leaning toward an EE 0* quilt (rated warmer at half the weight as my mummy bag). I like the idea of a quilt and a really warm pad. Seems as close to a bed as I can get in the wilderness.

What didn't agree? Proper fit with pad, tossing and turning, it was -20* outside...?

I think it was just cold af. If I got cold it was hard to warm back up. I think I'd like something similar that could be zipped up, and rated for 0.

I move a lot while I'm sleeping which is why the quilt was appealing, I just wasn't prepared for how cold it got in freaking August.

Last year... Sept 23... Weminuche... 35$ Magellan Scout... Never again. That's about to get upgraded.

0 degree Timber Creek mummy, paired with Klymit Lite Static V pad was fine. Pad kept me out of the water. Clothes and boots were frozen to it in the morning.

I think I'm still gonna pull the trigger on the Rev Apex. I've seen a lot of other good reviews.

Just ordered an EXO 5500 at lunch today. Gonna be a long 4 week wait.

Visited Kifaru this last friday. My buddy ended up ordering their frame and the Reckoning. I think I'll still like the EXO bag layout better, interested to see how the EXO frame compares. I wore the Kifaru frame with 80lbs around their store for about 15min and it felt great, so hoping it's on par.

I plan on ordering a reckoning sometime soon. Pumped about the center zip!

Yeah the center zip is super nice. We checked out all their packs and that was by far both our favorite due that feature. Not sure I like the water bladder being between the pack and frame rather than inside the pack, but I see where it could be handy.
