Carefully vetting the coaching staff hires. Talking about finally screening the sun from AT&T stadium. Making early moves to lock up your star players…

Jerry ok?

This is a great move.

Very cool. When you trade top end draft capital for a guy, you need to make sure it's a guy you lock up for a few years.

Most likely this deal was done in a way to free up cap space for next year. I wonder if it was enough to get something done with Pickens? Feels like he's going to have another monster year for us.

I don't think there is any way they can afford two $30+ million receivers. I hope they can get it done though. The current market is more than CeeDee makes. Pickens is better than Zay Flowers.

they CAN but other positions would suffer.

I think it's very important to find out if Flornoy is for real. If he has a good start to the year, I wouldn't mind locking him up for a reasonable deal.

Secondly, I think we need to go WR early next year in the draft. CD is 27 so he's got about 3 more seasons at a high level, IMO. He's had a few injury issues so I don't want to be in a bind as his skills start to diminish.

I think expectations are pretty high for Flournoy. Reasonable, but high.

A 6th round pick in '24, very much an under the radar guy until he started coming on last year. But there are multiple guys that really liked him coming out of college and felt like he had all the tools to be a solid NFL #2 or #3 WR.

Year 2/3 is where most WRs will show who they are and Flournoy started showing us in year 2 so he's right on track.

Yeah, I agree. He's def promising. I would like to see a bit more proof but I also think they need to be fairly proactive with locking him up. If he does blow up, maybe he bets on himself and tried to hit it big in FA.

1st team D is supposedly looking good against the Rams.

3 sacks, 2 INTs and shutting down running game

Justin Barron is a name to keep an eye on. 2nd year UDFA. He was every where today, with 3 interceptions.

The timeline is flooded with rave reviews of the defense today.

Traditionally it's all pretty vanilla stuff on both sides (nobody wants to show anything), but we are implementing a new D so I'm just curious if we added a little someting on top of that vanilla shake today?

Regardless, it's a great sign! It was the Ram's practice last year that A LOT of people said, "Uh Oh!". They exposed us pretty good and we saw how it went from there.

My hope of a middle of the road defense is quickly shifting to a top 10 expectation.

Man, I'm getting close to getting my heart broken again.

The Cowboys went toe to toe with most likely the best roster in football, or close to it.

Sounds like defense played great but apparently Terrence Steele really struggled even without Myles practicing for the Rams.

I think it's safe to say that this defense is going to be, at the very least, respectable.

Just In ... Barron Cooked: One of the biggest questions entering training camp involved the LB corps, but that's getting sorted very quickly, including its depth pieces. Against the Rams, Barron grabbed not one, or two, but three interceptions two against Stetson Bennett and one against Matthew Stafford helping to send the message that Parker's defense will be as advertised. Look for Barron to try and stack onto this performance when he takes the field against the Seahawks on Saturday. (Patrik Walker)

The good news is that Guyton looks to be having a good/solid camp so far. As many have said, he was always considered a bit of a project... now would definitely be a good time for him to figure it out!

That's Justin Barron (LB) that gigem was talking about above. Pretty much everybody is talking about him right now. Was already having a good camp, but he dominated LA.

How's Malachi Lawrence looking? Any talk about him compared to Ez?

Ez looks really good and so does Gary. Sam Williams getting a lot of praise as well (his issue was never physical talent).

Lawrence looks like a rookie with all the traits you want but he's trying to figure it all out. He's our 4th guy right now. I bet we see him get a good number of preseason reps.

I think it was Broadus who said he reminds him of D-Ware as a rookie. You see the burst and all the things, but it takes time and reps before the light turns on.

That's a wild thing to say... he looks like the most consistently dominant pass rusher we've ever had and one of the all time greats.

Justin Barron is still learning the LB position as well. Kid started out at Syracuse as a WR then moved to safety. He's definitely athletic. I've been excited about him for a while now.

I probably did a poor job of framing what Broadus was trying to say... My take away is that he was reminding everyone that even D-Ware looked like a rookie early on and for a lot of his 1st year.

He was just trying to get the point across that Lawrence isn't blowing anybody away, but the traits they drafted him for are there.... he just needs to get reps and work.

I'm ready for the 1st half of Saturday night!

There are always rookies and role players that are fun to watch early in these games. But somewhere around halftime and beyond, it's just a bunch of dudes whose best case scenario is making the practice squad.

Pretty sure Ware was top 10 in pressure rate as a rookie. Only had 8ish sacks but he was pretty effective from day one.

I really don't expect anything from Lawrence this year TBD. He's pretty raw and most of his production was against less than stellar OL competition. His learning curve is gonna be big.

There has never been a QB at this level with a bigger gap between their perception and their actual numbers/ability than Hurts. It's WILD.

Kudos to Philly for building a team around him so good that he can have success, but man it's frustrating to watch. Especially when I have to listen to Cowboys fans say it's impossible to win a SB with Dak.

I know what you meant. just poking fun... not really at you, but most media types that do comparisons and list all time greats.

The difference is the Eagles won the superbowl with his 2024 salary-cap hit was only $13.558 million - about 5% of the cap.

Dak is $47m this year and 15% of the cap.

Howie Roseman is good..
Player
2024 Cap Hit
Lane Johnson
~$15.9M
Jalen Hurts
~$13.6M
A.J. Brown
~$11.8M
Darius Slay
~$10.8M
Dallas Goedert
~$10.6M
Jordan Mailata
~$8.5M
Josh Sweat
~$8.1M
Saquon Barkley
~$3.8M
DeVonta Smith
~$6M

I'm ready for the season. This is the best cowboys team we've had in a while. I'm hopeful on Guyton working out at LT. You do it with an expensive QB and great young players playing prominent roles because of good drafting, or you do it with a young QB and a superstar roster. Or in Roseman's case, you do it with both phenomenal drafting, superstars, and a cheap QB that sucks
