It's so early but it does seem pretty clear that this defense isn't going to be a putrid pile of dung. Q Williams and Kenny Clark are a problem in the middle.

I'm actually getting some strong hopeful vibes for this season. Just feels like there is buy-in across the board with this team. Like for the first time in a long time it feels like everyone in this organization is rowing in the same direction. Hell you even got Jerry talking about blocking out the sun finally. Again it's all feels and not necessarily one thing I can point too. But hopefully we are in for some good times this season.

The difference here is we already know this Cowboys offense is very good.


Correct. Traditionally the defense should have a bit of an edge on the offense in training camp. Offense definitely requires more continuity & time to get in sync (which is why George being in camp is a big deal).

But no doubt, this defense being ahead of the game is huge. I had a lot of confidence (wishful thinking) that Parker would turn this thing around. Our overal talent wasn't that bad and we added to it this offseason.

Overshown is probably the key to how good we can be. The floor is hopefully average, but if he can stay healthy and is 100% back phsysically, the defense could be actually good.

My big ? For the defense is where the QB pressure will come from. Do they have someone that can get after it or is it a position group full of JAGs?

So far, Ez has looked really good going into year 2. He's probably our best bet in terms of athletic ability. Hard not to expect Quinnen, Clark & Gary to get a lot of attention... need Ez, Houston, Sam Williams, and the rookie Lawrence to succeed (as a group) winning 1v1.

When we had Micah, teams did a lot of damage running the ball to his side and O-lines were allowed to choke hold him without penalty. His effectiveness was minimized.

I really like what we have. Micah + JAGs didn't win us any trophies... I'm looking forward to what CP can do with a front 4 that is more talented across the board.

I will maintain he was the steal of the offseason league wide until proven otherwise. His PFF coverage grades were on par with multiple guys who got big multi year deals. I remain genuinely perplexed at how we got him for what we did.

He's a top 40 corner in the league by almost every metric, meaning he's in the top two thirds of starting corners in the league. Outside of guys on rookie deals he's probably the lowest paid out of all of them.

Everyone knew he was a project with traits coming out of college, so I remain confused why so many fans acted like he was a bust the last two years. Year three is about where guys like that would be expected to become good players if they're going to.

We've had tight ends at A&M with frames more closely resembling that of NFL OTs than Guyton did when he left OU. It was always gonna take time.

Keep hearing Barhams name. Not that he's the best player on the field, but sounds like he is the biggest surprise. Making plays moving forward and has also made some plays dropping into coverage.

Fred Warner was a 3rd round pick, just sayin!

Durant's name keeps being repeated since we started bragging on him earlier this week. They say Revel has looked really good as well. He's been a bit too grabby, but nobody is making a big deal out of it because he's not grabbing because he's beat... he's running step for step on a lot of his reps.

I don't think anybody is suggesting we have pro bowl CBs, but it appears we have 3 very capable / starting NFL CBs. Throw in our versatile safety group and it's a far cry from last year.

Yea, I think you'd bring Von in on the cheap because he wants to be here. Leverage his leadership, mentorship, and if you get a few 3rd down sacks, icing on the cake. You don't bring him here expecting he finds his second wind. IMHO.

That's a fine idea, but NFL rosters are so limited. 37 year old Von would be more of a progress stopper than a contributor. I don't see him being a better situational pass rusher than James Houston or Sam Williams and I don't need him taking snaps away from Lawrence.

Speaking of Sam Williams, the guy is having a helluva training camp according to some.

Clowney had 8.5 in 13 games last year under the worst defensive coaching we've ever had. CP did not want.

It's not an argument about whether or not some of these guys can still get the occasional sack, it's whether or not they are worth 1 of your precious few 53 man roster spots.

Only 48 dudes can suite up on gamedays and Von is a role player who doesn't play special teams.
