The Texas Tribune, a well known EXTRA conservative media outlet...

Quote:

Politically appointed Justice Department leadership was not involved in the decision, which was recommended by a senior career official who had concerns about prosecutors' ability to secure a conviction, according to another person briefed on the matter. Political appointees are not typically involved in public integrity section matters to avoid the appearance of political interference.

The Texas GOP isn't "giving" us anybody.

There was an open, free and fair election. There were other candidates and the people voted for Paxton.

There was even a runoff after that, and the people voted for Paxton.

He may not have been your choice, but he is clearly the choice of the Republican voters in Texas.

Well said!! The fact that Republicans actually vote on their candidates instead of maneuvering to get a candidate selected like the dems do it is probably what's getting under their skins.

And worked behind the scenes to kill 70% if what he wanted. So well known he was boooed offstage in a Republican event.

Kind of left off that part.

Paxton fought hard against Biden. And he will fight in the Senate. That's why establishment hated him as well as democrats.

We need to replace every "Cornyn"s with "Paxton"'s and mskr the actual Republican leadership a bunch of fighters.

He is a conservative but a VERY mushy MAGA.

Where did anyone say he was squeaky clean. He was attacked with lawfare and BS charged and he was proven innocent when testimony had to be under oath. These are given facts.

Nobody is claiming squeaky clean. Just that he was attacked due to a political witch hunt because he fights for actual conservatism.

That is not up for debate.

I DGAF about some stupid procedural crap that doesn't matter and I don't care about symbolic votes he makes so he can claim that 90% crap.

He fought against almost all of Trump's major policies He openly said Trump should go because, like these ****eads did with the Tea Party, he wants the unioarty to win. He fought against Trump because he's a power hungry slime ball.

And most conservatives in Texas know this. See the boooooooooing event.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
He was always a slimy vermin, imho.

Quote:

John Cornyn, the self-proclaimed "conservative" Senator from Texas, has spent his career systematically dismantling the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. His 2017 FIX-NICS disaster ballooned the flawed Gun Ban Registry by 90% to 33 million entries, where over 95% of denials are false positivesscrewing over innocent gun owners with garbage data. Worse, 250,000 veterans got their rights stripped without due process, a betrayal Cornyn shrugs off.

Then there's his 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act lovechild with Democrat Chris Murphypraised by Joe Biden, no less. Cornyn funneled $1.4 billion into gun control, including $750 million for red flag laws to snatch guns without a fight, with Texas pocketing at least $12 million. The ATF's emboldened overreach? Thank Cornyn for their "dealer in firearms" rule, choking out private transfers and gunsmithing, forcing every transaction into NICS.

As Texas AG, his Texas Exile fetish pushed harsh penalties on gun owners, and in 2018, he scaled that obsession nationally with a $150 million taxpayer-funded boondoggle. He's backed sneaky "No Fly, No Buy" schemesdue process be damnedand even voted to confirm 2A foes like Hillary Clinton and Merrick Garland. When gun owners called him out, Cornyn smirked, banking on his entrenched politician privilege. Some "defender" of Texas values.

Happy to work with the commies whenever he thought he could get away with it.

And again, we wouldn't have a Lisa Murkowski to deal with today if he had properly supported the guy who beat her in the primary.

Sure but with what?

This really bugs me how small minded the thinking here is. He didn't come from any money. He spent his entire adult life the US AF and as a politician. So he dies and reportedly has a net worth of 1.1M. So what?

Most of his wealth wasn't on the books. Unlike my 401k's, he had a DOD retirement and a congressional retirement. He hasn't been collecting the DOD retirement that long and it was never going to make him rich. Having $1.1M in assets for a guy that didn't inherit sh** nor work in the private sector aint bad.

And as you said, for all we know he could have been giving his wealth away via estate planning or charity.

Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland (a Republican) endorses Talarico:

Quote:

People often ask about political parties, especially during election season. The truth is, while a Sheriff may choose a party to run under, the badge doesn't see political affiliation, it sees people.

Whether someone is Republican, Democrat, Independent, or anything else, our job is the same: to serve, protect, and treat every person with fairness, dignity, and respect.

At the end of the day, we're all human. That's something that will always matter more than party lines.

For background, he's a loud mouth sheriff in the county west of Del Rio's Val Verde County who weighed in on Biden's terrible immigration policies. He also endorsed Tony Gonzales over AKGuy in 2024.

Another example of Paxton and by extension his office being for sale.

Quote:

Last month, Attorney General Ken Paxton waded into the explosive college football saga involving Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech University quarterback who had admitted to placing thousands of improper sports bets, including on his own team's games, resulting in the NCAA declaring him ineligible to play.

In a June 11 letter, Paxton's office warned the Big 12 Conference on behalf of Texas Tech that any move to sanction the university for fielding Sorsby would be "unlawful" and potentially expose it to $200 million in damages.

One day before he sent that letter, Texas Tech Board of Regents Chair Cody Campbell, one of Sorsby's most public defenders, donated $274,300 to a fundraising committee supporting Paxton in his bid for U.S. Senate, according to campaign finance records newly filed with the Federal Election Committee Wednesday.

It's not surprising to see a border county sheriff supporting the cartels' favorite open-borders candidates.

https://www.texasmonthly.com/true-crime/the-sheriff-who-went-to-pot/
Hidalgo count's top cop, Brig Marmolejo, was a champion of law and orderuntil Mexican drug smugglers made him an offer that even he couldn't refuse.

https://www.tdcaa.com/journal/public-corruption-in-the-valley/
In 2013, more public officials were convicted of federal crimes in South Texas than in any other place in the nation: 83 such convictions stemmed from drug smuggling, vote stealing, courthouse bribery, and the like. Corruption devours South Texas public officials.

In the past two decades, no fewer than five Valley sheriffs have been convicted of receiving bribes from drug traffickers. The list includes Cameron County Sheriff Conrado Cantu, who received a 24-year prison sentence, and Starr County Sheriff Eugenio Falcon, who got two years in prison. His predecessor, Starr County Sheriff Reymundo Guerra, received five years, and Hidalgo County Sheriff Brigido Marmolejo was sentenced to seven. Marmolejo's successor, Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe Treviño, got five years in prison. One would think that it is in vogue to be included in that list of compadres.

Meh...

Cornyn voted something like 96% with Trump.

Paxton will probably vote 99.9% with Trump.

If Paxton loses, Texas will have a senator who votes 0% with Trump.

The primary voters should have picked HUNT if they wanted an easily electable, very conservative candidate that wasn't Cornyn, who would ALSO vote probably 99.1% with Trump.

When you are in leadership roles like Cornyn, it is less important to look at how often he "voted with Trump" and more important to look at how many times he made sure that legislation he disagreed with Trump on never came up for a vote in the first place. And yes, I think Hunt would have been better and voted for him in the primary. But given the runoff choice between Cornyn and Paxton, Paxton was the only reasonable choice. If Paxton loses to Talarico, it won't be because of some burst of democratic enthusiasm, it will be because butthurt Cornyn supporters decide to stay home.

Yeah...

There's no chance that some Republicans really dislike Paxton because of his baggage. Or that independents think the same way. It's ONLY butthurt Cornyn supporters...

Then how did Paxton win 3 state wide races in 2014, 2018, and 2022?
