I don't care about any polling until the RNC convention in Dallas September 9-10. Everything until that point is gay window cross dressing.

Uh, no. Texas should never be electing center left candidates like Cornyn. We will have a conservative representing us. Stop hyperventilating.

And the Bryan Eagle is right now with it. Were it now for Aggie sports, I suspect it would already be dead in the water. I guy I know who works for the Eagle says it's hanging on by threads.

Still ahead, but his lead is dwindling.

First off it's basically where it was when the Republicans finally nominated Paxton and Talarico had a known opponent. Second, if Talarico and his campaign had any hopes of actually pulling the upset they'd need to be polling about even right now at a minimum. This lead is massive when Paxton hasn't even started attacking him

This. Paxton hasn't put up a single billboard I'm aware of showing Talarico's own words. "I love trans children" will at some point end up on a billboard in Dallas and this election will be over. He's going to lose in embarrassing fashion, but he'll be rich so that's good. Well done, Democrats.

I think the quote was much worse than that.

If I remember correctly, he didn't say " I love trans children".

The interviewer asked him what he thought about the most, and he said "trans kids".

Also if there were any reporters with an ounce of integrity, they would ask Mr Talarico what he thought about the Democrat socialistic platform and what will become of middle class if adopted. Also ask him what his take on private property is. And since the democrats seems to covet what others have , is that bad in his eyes, since he is a preacher, you know.

Pretty sure it was something like, "other than family what's one thing you love?" And he said "trans children". Either way it's a completely bizarre thing to be top of mind for something you love. He's completely off the rails.

Let's face it... Cornyn was the right pick to go up against Little Beto.

Democrats vote on emotion and their 'movement' is gaining traction. In a state where a garbage candidate like Talarico should get stomped, he's gonna make this closer, way closer, than it should ever have been. Dems love feminine men - especially the ones that love gays and trans.

Paxton is a scumbag, but he's our scumbag. So as long as Republicans hold their nose and pull the lever, we'll be fine. But there's zero excitement fueling the Paxton camp. I doubt he could fill a high school auditorium with supporters. He's a perfect example of a grunge vote.

Explain a 30 point win over a 24 YEAR INCUMBENT.

Outspent 10-1 and he wins by THIRTY POINTS.

Yeah, no excitement, lukewarm support

I think Paxton will win but it's important to be sober minded here. That 30 point win was in a runoff election which garnered less than a million votes. During the original primary 60% of the GOP primary voters did not vote Paxton. Paxton had 878k voters in the primary election he lost and won the runoff with 586k votes. He beat Cornyn because he had less of a collapse in his runoff vote totals than Cornyn did. Cornyn had 910k votes in the primary, so his runoff collapse was a staggering 600k votes. But in reality Paxton didn't prove that he picked up any Cornyn or Hunt votes, but he will need them.

The democrats turned out 2.3 million primary voters for their candidates versus the GOPs 2.1 million. There is an enthusiasm gap in the grassroots, which can be problematic with ground operations come general election time. Keep in mind. In the last Cruz election, the GOP primary election had 2.3 million votes in an election where Cruz was running against challengers that got 11% of the primary vote. Cruz had 1 million more primary votes than Cornyn and 1.1 million more than Paxton in a primary race where he didn't have to spend any money because he was virtually unchallenged. His general election challenger was Allred who ran in a primary with a total of 967k votes cast. 1.2million fewer votes than the Democrats just cast. Allred was running in a major election year primary, not a mid term year. The Democrats just doubled their major election year voting in a mid year election while the GOP went backwards. Not a good sign.

So the enthusiasm gap between Cruz and Allred was much greater, to the advantage of Cruz. Cruz beat Allred with 53% of the vote after a significant enthusiasm gap in the primary season.

This cycle the gap is reversed to the democrats advantage.

The GOP is going to have its work cut out for them. It will cost them a lot more time and money to win this race than it should for a state like Texas.

Plus Trump's endorsement was a huge advantage for Paxton's blowout win. My in laws were going to vote for Cornyn but flipped to Paxton because of Trump. They like are alot of people that worship Trump. If Trump would endorse the Talifrico they would vote for him too.

If a lot of people on the leftist side thought their soy boy had any real shot there would have been a lot of Democrat ad buys from the DNC/Schumer's Democrat senate majority pac (WinSenate). He's raised money but that's true for every Dem nominee in Texas.

One thing to note about the Democrat primary. They had higher than normal black turnout because of Crockett running. If it had been Talafreko and some other white dude, their turnout would have been much lower.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. Understood and I should have noted that. I do agree with the implication. Talarico will likely struggle to get high black turnout, but I would not count it out. His campaign will have a lot of money to spend to get the black gotv cranking.

The enthusiasm point remains. 1.2 million people voted for Talarico in the Democratic primary. Paxton had 878k in a highly contested primary vote and then dropped to 586k in the runoff. That is less than Talarico and his challenger.

This will be a fight unless Talarico melts under pressure in some way. Paxton is unlikable among traditional republicans. He will need them in heavy doses. What other demographic is Paxton strong with? Paxton is not going to get a high percentage of independents and I don't see him killing it with the Latinos. If Trump steps foot in this state for an event this fall I would not be surprised and it will be telling. Paxton will need Texas Boomers in spades and the young vote to act in their typical fashion in a mid term as no shows. They overperformed in the Democratic primary vs their norm. Latino voters also overperformed vs their norm and broke 75-25 to the Dem primary.

This has the markings of the 2018 Senate race where Cruz, an incumbent, wins by just 200k votes and 50.9%. I will give Paxton the benefit of incumbency by virtue of him winning a statewide office multiple times, so he's as close to an "incumbent" candidate for the Senate seat as you can get without being an incumbent of that seat. Talarico has never won a statewide seat in a general election. So Paxton has the benefit of a veteran statewide election operation in a GOP run state. But Paxton has never had a serious general election challenger. He was on that 2018 ballot as the incumbent AG. That race was a 3% margin of victory after winning by 10% in 2014. This is going to be more difficult environment as a Republican than in 2018 and for Paxton it will have an added level of difficulty.

Paxton is tied at the hip with Trump. Will that help in this cycle outside of primary season? Time will tell. Trumps approval ratings right now are slightly worse than in 2018. He's also lost enthusiasm among young males with his Middle East Policies, policies that Paxton is very much supportive of. It's going to be an interesting tight rope. Lots of clarity will come by mid-September. Talarico has terrible policy positions for Texas and in general, but Texas has 3.5 million more registered voters in 2026 vs 2018 and the democrats just doubled their primary turnout from the last two mid term primaries. The GOP better hope that the black vote for Crockett stays home this fall. If they turnout they will not be voting for Paxton.

In the last governor's race Abbott lost every major city in TX. Even Ft. Worth. Without "small cities" like Tyler, Longview, Lubbock, Amarillo etc. and rural TX, we would have a Dem in the governor's mansion right now. And Abbott has done a good job with no baggage to wheel around.

Now we have Paxton with an extreme amount of baggage. I will hold my nose and vote for Paxton, but I know at least a dozen people who will not vote at all in the Senate race because they will never vote for KP. And these people I know have probably not voted for a Dem since the early 1980s. And ALL these people are Aggies.

I think the Senate race is a 50/50 proposition right now. Maybe KP's ads will hit hard with the right voting block.

But the days of Republicans winning in TX no matter who the Republican candidate is may be over.

Cornyn would have rolled the Dem idiot.

Even losing all those major cities, Abbott won by double digits...Enough people live outside those places that are overwhelmingly conservative...

I agree that Paxton will make the Senate race closer than it would have been with Cornyn running.

Just like you (and me) are having to hold our noses to vote for Paxton, the Paxton supporters mostly would have done the same for Cornyn. But, Cornyn would garner more of the independent vote...
