Keep an eye on the Maryland and Virginia senators. Just catching up so not sure if they have "flipped", but this ends with a Schumer loss. And for better or worse this is the end of Schumer. For better, or maybe worse as well, it's the end of Jeffries.

So what is next? Dems can quadruple down on stoopedd and feckless leadership, or they can look at John Joe Fetterman Leiber to save them.

But I think what we are seeing is the dying throws of the Dem party.

Musk and the tech bros may ultimately get their own party, but it will be on the ashes of the Dems.

Vance seemed to indicate that the text was in an original or earlier version of the Dem proposal but they backed off on some of it. I was still half asleep, but he seemed to be skirting a line to keep the talking point. If that is incorrect then my bad.

Why are they always stupid when they shutdown.

I need to get an export license from State and they have taken the entire DECCS system down. I could input my request and wait for them to get back but nooooo. Shut the website down too.

Meanwhile all these government people are enjoying their free vacation and waiting to get paid for nothing. Or will they? If Trump has the gonad's he should tell them no pay this time. But I doubt he could stand the political fallout.

The debate can now be framed, before we did anything drastic we gave the Democrats multiple opportunities before and after the shut down to continue normal operations. Since we don't have appropriated funds we have to take measures to tighten the belt just like any family in America would do if they lost their income.

There are 750,000 civilian employees at the Pentagon??? That can't be right, can it?

ETA: everything I'm reading says there are between 24-26k civilian + military employees at the Pentagon. Not sure what she mean to say above, as 6k at 8% is still 75k total employees..

A simple google search would tell you about 26,000 people work at the pentagon. There are approximately 1 million civilians who work for the Department of Defense (sorry...the Department of War)...so maybe that's the number you're referring to?

Did anyone here listen to Ted Cruz podcast this morning?

He said yesterday everyone was milling around the Senate floor and Schumer was speaking. Cruz said Schumer started going on about public opinion polling toward the (then) impending shutdown. Schumer said that there was a lot of severe "Right wing bias" in all of the polls. In the very next breath he says, "for example in a New York Times poll, conducted..."

Cruz said the quiet laughter spread across the room and even Chuck's fellow Democrats turned and looked at the lectern, as if to say, "Really Chuck? The NYT is Right wing bias?" Cruz said even Chuck knew he was cooked.

I was in the room in the senate chambers watching myself. The burst of laughter was anything but quiet! The democrats were sitting behind Chuck kind of shocked at what he was saying and that he'd set himself up like that. Quite entertaining to see in person.
