In addition to not being able to drive to Cadillac Ridge in Acadia National Park, I can't visit the National Gallery of Art or the Sculpture Garden in D.C.

Layoff 10% in every government agency/department and NEVER bring them back. Make the layoff performance based and they will never be missed and their coworkers will thank you

this is the kind of crap I really hate from both sides in these kinds of shut downs. We have 1000 government agencies that could shut down permanently and the average person on the street would never know they were gone. Instead of defunding those and using the money to keep the military paid and the SNAP programs funded, we are going to be all dramatic and threaten to stop paying our military and helping feed hungry kids. The fact that democrats are causing the shutdown won't mean a thing when we have spent the last week telling everybody we control what will be shut down/cancelled. And now we have Leavitt out there announcing this issue. Way to take a positive situation (the Schumer shutdown) and hang it squarely around your own neck!

Agree with this. Military budget should actually be separated entirely. That might also have the effect of making a balanced budget amendment at least feasible. As long as you have the unexpected and ongoing issues Defense has to worry about you can't have a balanced budget. So make them distinct funding processes.

That does stink, we were just up there right before the shutdown!

Just use google image and throw it up on the big screen T.V. Cheaper than flying into D.C., paying for a hotel and spending gods amount of money on food.

President Trump needs to come out today and say that when the government reopens he wants congress to look into legalizing marijuana. Force the dems to truly defend the government shutdown and force the dems to back the president legalizing marijuana. Liberal media heads will explode.

Current Conditions - Acadia National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

It appears that you can still drive to Cadillac Mountain during the closure... I hope so anyway, I will be there Saturday.

Thune and Johnson have proven be to be a marked improvement.

McConnel absolutely would have given some away by now, in hat tip to his acquired TDS. McCarthy might not have been as strong in Johnson's place, and we know Ryan would have folded on things.

Wait until the sob stories from the layed off Government workers hits the News. I think massive layoffs is kind of a losing proposition for the Republicans in this situation, while the spotlight is on the shutdown. Don't give the DEMs anything negative to use, that's my opinion. If the Republicans want a win out of this, and a gotcha for the DEMs, they should fight for clean elections. Make the DEMs vote to require documented proof of citizenship for Federal elections. Tie that to the Continuing Resolution since the DEMs want to add their demands, we should be able to add ours.

Just saying don't give the DEMs a bunch of sniveling layed off government workers in the news cycle while the spotlight is on this shutdown...Do the layoffs when nobodies paying attention...

Yes, the rest of the park was open except for the visitors center. I was not able to buy the lifetime National Park pass I was planning to buy.

Eh. Legacy media is always going to cast the Republicans in a bad light. They are Democrats and serve as organs for the Democrat Party. They always show partisan bias. We should continue to ignore them, accepting the fact they will slant all news stories in favor of Democrats.

I think (or hope) Republicans have finally learned that the vast majority of folks don't consume legacy media anymore so let them continue with their partisan smears as it falls on deaf ears.

There's a reason the Dems approval rating is hovering around 17% and it's not because the majority of people watch legacy media.

The unions have already filed a lawsuit to stop the RIFs.

No doubt a Biden or Obama judge already has the injunction written up and ready to go.

There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
