What's the story behind this supposed pile of cash that is judge and the left want Trump to use for snap??

If I were King...err...I mean Trump, it would start with the entire budget for the Judicial Branch and go from there. If SCOTUS and their staff want to get paid, they can hurry up and put an end to this district court lawfare BS. Otherwise, nobody in the Judicial Branch gets paid so the executive branch can follow the orders of the one district judge.

Let's just vacate the entire judicial and legislative branch. That'll really own the libs. Winning.

Look at associations and insurance companies that work off a membership model. Pay the minimal membership dues and get access to group coverage for decent insurance at market rates. Not cheap because it's not subsidized, but not 2X exorbitant like the rates you were quoting.

Thanks for the suggestion. That would be a potential solution if I could find something that I can legitimately be part of. I couldn't really pull that off a few years ago, but maybe things have changed.

Regardless though, the point is that Rs are going to need to combat (even if only from a PR perspective) the fact that millions are going to see skyrocketing increases in their premiums, and its going to happen suddenly. The realization is about to sink it. It may have an effect on the whole shutdown situation.

Trump will have the Dems at the table next week and something will be signed to reopen.

The Dems fear approving a CR without those "Affordable" Care Act subsidies.

A lot of companies benefit elections are happening at this time of year, so they all look at what is going to happen with their premiums...

If the Dems sign a CR, the subsidies will end, premiums will skyrocket and suddenly ACA will become a midterm battleground issue and the fact that almost every blue state is pushing to have illegals subsidized over US citizens will be the bludgeon that Rs use as a wedge issue for independents. That and that the dems seem over indexed on the losing side of almost every 80/20 issue and the redistricting. It's going to be a bloodbath.

Dems or progs are attempting to incite their SNAP army of worthless parasites to Burn, Loot, and Murder to put pressure on, but I dont think this is a winning strategy. I think even if there is funding for SNAP, some lowlifes are going to do the "rob the grocery store" tiktok challenge and even further damage the polling numbers on the shutdown, which are already not good for the Democrats.

It puts repealing ACA back on the table.

Dems really painted into a corner here.

Cobra was going to be $1800 and ACA was going to be about that much for us. I assume you have kids for yours to cost $3600.

I did not think there were any other other options either, so I'm not bagging on you. I was doing Medishare (still am technically) until I found this PPO. Medishare is better than nothing. That's costing us about $360 per month but I'll kill that shortly.

Find an insurance broker that handles health.

I'll be looking at options, so thanks for the suggestion. But no - no kids. That's the Blue Cross Advantage HMO Plan Premium for 2026 for me and my wife. Stunning isn't it. Blue Cross is increasing all their individual plans by huge amounts.

To be clear, as an upper middle class Republican, you want to continue to receive a government hand out?

I don't need the handout. But I also wasn't expecting a 53% rate increase. The combination will increase my premium to $3601 per month. A little shocking to say the least.

I'm fine with eliminating the subsidies. But I also see that this is unsustainable. This is going to have a massive effect on people. Health Insurance is broken to the point that it will soon sink the country.

Then get off the Obamacare. There are plenty of options out there in the free market for less than half that. Just look around. It's there.

No, not really. I've looked.

And all this is for an HMO Plan.

I'm delighted to tell you that you are wrong. I know because my new UHC PPO plan is effective tomorrow. I'm an early retiree and my wife and I just got full medical, dental, and vision for $960 per month.

It's not really a question if premiums will skyrocket.

They will.

It's a question of who will pay for it and how well they can hide that.

Just a bit of silly info for none GOVies.

Friday was the 1st day of updated furlough rules applied to us so called essential personnel. New rules are applied after the 1st 30 days have expired.

Now. I go in and check green/red/yellow emails and if their are no actionable emails…..I can go back home.

The fact that premiums are going to skyrocket is a FEATURE of Obamacare, not a bug...

These "temporary" subsidies were put in place to postpone the impacts until they could be blamed on Republicans...

I choose the opposite. Health insurance for none except what you can individually pay for. The market will correct.

The is absolutely the solution. Most of the problem we have today is health care costs are insulated from consumer critique and the influence of buying power.

Another interesting fact I wasn't tracking until this particular shutdown, O&M & RDT&E funded GS workers are on different funding/furlough timelines

The Govt is shut down for 31 days and life is going on.

So makes me wonder, do we need to Govt open? I am sure we saved a bunch of money being spent by the losers in Govt.

I am fine with laying off the Govt.

Just ANOTHER reason why that service should be privatized…. A private security vompany could do that job much better and more efficient.

The Jerry Seinfled comedy bit about airport security is timeless.

If you privatize it, the company will cut corners to save money for bonuses, and endanger people's lives.

Not that the Govt is much better but privatizing isn't the solution.

So there should be no private security companies tasked with public safety? They should all be government employees because costs will be cut? That make no sense.

I'm fairly certain that the nation's nuclear weapon stockpiles are guarded by private security contractors.

But I guess keeping me from taking an extra ounce of toothpaste on Southwest Airlines is a much harder job

Post links that show that nukes are guarded by private security.

Not really. A&M is part of a consortium that runs Pantex (and Los Alamos National Lab), but SOC runs the guard force, and maybe the couriers, as well.

LOL,,,you can't be this clueless.

When the 'security' system was stress tested in 2015, the TSA had a 95% failure rate.

If someone wants to cause a problem or mass casualty event, it would be at the hours long TSA lines, not passed them.

EDIT to add, there are in fact private companies doing security work at several airports in the US. I've flown through several of them (MCI and SFA). The lines move quickly and it's pretty painless. Contrast that with some other gov. run facilities, it's night and day.
