While I can appreciate the true conservatism coming from this sentiment, the Rs finally won an argument with the Ds with voters, and even the Left is admitting the Rs won this one…

Rs need to take this win and build on it…

That win won't matter when midterms roll around, especially when a 50B industry evaporates. Voters will punish.

Though Rs can only lose what 2 votes, it does not appear that even that will happen. May even get a few Ds to support.

The D civil war is afoot. Please cheer their division at every turn.

I disagree…it WILL matter if Rs can take this win (reopened the government without giving in on ACA subsidies), and add more wins to it…

I think the Ds wrongfully convinced themselves that last Tuesday was some "blue wave" when the reality was…most strong blue areas simply got bluer…

When the talking heads in leftwing media are going on record and saying the Ds lost this argument, then the reality is that they lost this argument on a much grander scale than is being reported…the fact that the Left is calling this a loss though…that's huge…now the Rs need to take advantage of it…

The Ds have needed this war for far too long.

If any of the gods are paying attention, may they all help the party crumble to ruins so something better comes out of it.

This country needs more than one party to act like adults, and it's about time for that to happen, even it means a party having to start over from scratch.

Voters won't remember a year from now and the economy is only getting worse, and adding the evaporation of an entire industry won't help.

It does appear that the extreme left is now poised to assume control of the modern day Democratic Party...

Nancy is leaving, Chuck is going to be marginalized, and the loons on the extreme left who think XY can be "a girl", are going to carry the banner...

The vast majority of America simply does not identify with these extreme lefties...and it's going to hurt the party...Chuck and Nancy were the last remaining bridges trying to span the gap between progressives and flat out loons...

Hell, when Tim Kaine breaks ranks and votes with the Rs to reopen the government without getting what the far Left was trying to secure, it speaks volumes, IMHO...

I couldn't agree more. The vast majority of Americans, even ones who not so long ago were proud Democrats like me, have NOTHING in common with the extreme left. They're a pox on the party.

And you know things are getting real when Kaine breaks with the left.

Honestly, the eight who broke should help start the end of the party by becoming independents. IMHO

Clean bill huh?

Idgaf what some AGs want. I care what the people want, what our veterans want, what our agriculture businesses want. What our small businesses want.

Look, I don't want chemicals in my hemp derived products. And there are plenty of places above board on this. Sweeping bans instead of regulation is just lazy, ineffective, and clearly corrupt. No one wants this.

Edit: if they want to reschedule Marijuana, do it before this ban. That's a a farce.

It's a different bill than what the House approved. They have to vote on it (simple majority).

then Trump has to sign. Earliest it'll all clear is Wednesday.

Since the bill changed, it has to get sent back for the House to vote on the new bill - they haven't passed the one the Senate passed, yet.

There is a good chance that the far left's desire to usurp the OG Democrats makes them weaker. I'm failing to see who is going to be the "glue" that holds the party together that can schmooze and effectively work the back halls of Congress. It takes an extremely shrewd and calculating person to effectively fill that role for either party.

I'm not ready to proclaim this a victory for the better side here, but they are certainly flirting with their own destruction with this civil war of theirs. The IQ levels between the Republican Party and the Democrats is lopsided in favor of Republicans, and the Marxists making their power moves right now are certainly not smart people by and large. There are obviously exceptions to get ahead of some leftist clown that will post some to this reply, but on the whole it's objectively not close.

I never count out the stupidity and fickleness of the American public though. We will vote in Stalin simply to do something different than the last election cycle without thinking through outcomes.

Keep it closed. I was enjoying no additional out of control spending.

Well get ready to pay overtime money to federal employees that now need to catch up on almost most two months of work.

How many team lunches and smoke breaks is it going to take to make up for being off work for 2 months? Jeebus, no one actually buys that non-essential fed workers who primarily worked from home for half a decade need overtime to catch up after 45 days.

In my case, I don't do team lunches, I'm not on a team and I don't smoke so I've never taken a smoke break

If there is such glue in the Dem party, it would be a Bill Clinton type who was exceptionally skilled at it, although his far left flank 30 years ago wasn't near as prevalent and extreme as today's. Gavin Newsome comes to mind as someone with similar skills, although I personally can't stand the guy for the obvious reasons. But then again, I don't think like a Dem.

We've been in a pattern for a while of enough voters growing tired of whoever's in office that they vote for the other party out of revenge or belief they can't be as bad as the current one. It only takes a couple percentage points of voters to swing it the other way.

I'd be very surprised if we don't see the Dems capture at least one congressional chamber in the midterms. But it's still a year out and plenty of time for things to develop.

I sent a note to the admin letting them know of this little loophole and to deny overtime wages.

If you are getting backpay for sitting on your arse, you do not get overtime. Not unlike what Trump is proposing on the ATCs.

If you don't work, then come back expecting full back pay plus overtime pay to catch up on the work you chose not to do during the shutdown, I think you need to reflect inward if your ethics and morals align with what is supposed to be a "service" government job.

I'm not pointing this at you since you seem to imply this applies to a significant portion of government employees other than yourself.

I said this wasn't directed at your situation. Do you believe that there aren't any people that chose not to work because of the shutdown and are now going to get backpay and expect overtime to catch up? The overtime premise you brought up in the first place.

Flown-the-coop is right. If there was no work getting done during a time period, then the backpay comes in to pay for the work that should have gotten done in that time period but didn't, that back pay is what covers any outside of standard work hours work that needs to be caught up on.
