Sounds like the deal they were working on has fallen through…

Ds are standing firm on the ACA subsidies issue that their bull**** created in the first place…

I say **** it…go nuclear and reopen the government without the Ds…

Best move the Rs can make…

I'm now of the opinion this isn't about the ACA or illegals, i think this is about forcing the hand of the Rs to go to a straight majority vote. Once this is played, I'll expect it from both sides going forward. The senate lost their ability to be the "saucer under the teacup" Washington and others envisioned.

Probably so. But if the Republicans can hold stro g agaisnt thos radicalism then the dems will have no leg to stand on when they try to remove it.

(Yes, I know it doesnt matter to them and their media will support it regardless)

If you want to see the Rs have success in the midterms, Rs need to open the government and implement Trump's domestic agenda with guns blazing…

It's now or never…

I still don't understand how there are people who think the nuclear option would ever pass. There are RINOs and GOPe that will never vote for this…nor will any Dem right now. We don't have 51 votes.

No compromise. Dems took it this far and now they are hurting, just hold the line and make them comply.

Just saw the Democrats asked for a 1-yr extension to ACA subsidies. I wonder what happens in 1-yr from now? Oh... Another election! I can't believe the Democrats would use our Mid-Term elections as another deadline to force more Government socialism on everyone and use the media to help them promote "Republicans want to take away your healthcare if you don't vote for us in November 2026!" It's the exact reason why Dems had the current ACA subsidies expire in November 2025 under Joe Biden... Use it for the off-year elections.

Why is our country run by such dumb, immoral people? The vast majority of congress should be in prison at this point.

I'm not sure if they are hurting or not. And I don't know if there is any really objective measures out there. Left leaning media says it's hurting republicans and right leaning media says it's hurting democrats. Who knows what the real truth is.

People are hurting for sure, but I am not sure if the national sentiment of moving one way or another. I do know if it lasts too long, people won't care about politics as it will be drastically affecting peoples lives…it will damage trust in BOTH parties

If Trump could find a workable workaround during this shutdown to pay govt employees and military at the very least, that would be a huge positive for a lot of people.

Yep. Schumer would rather have a 1 year extension than make them permanent just for the election meat. Probably what they wanted all along

It's not up to Trump to find a workaround to pay anyone. It's the job of Congress to pass a budget. Then if Trump doesn't sign it then it's all on him. But finding workarounds should never be the solution. If a POTUS can find workarounds then abolish Congress all together.

It's a trap! They'll just demand another extension and shut the government down over that. Stick your guns!

They will do that anyway.

They would have done it in 2021 except Manchin and Sinema blocked it.

States need to call a convention and term limit every one of these ****ers. Very few there give a crap about their constituents. It is all about establishment of long term grift and power.

The fact that congress pays themselves and continues to collect all their financial rewards no matter what they do to the people of the nation should also be kept in account.

No one wants a president with too much power, it makes no sense. But some limited emergency powers do exist for good reason and some should be for the welfare of people so that neither party can hold the country hostage anytime they don't get what they want. Right now they seem to be at a legitimate impasse

LOL at how that is framed. This will be how the media frames it going forward: "see, Dems are trying to reopen the gov't and its the Republicans keeping it shut down." Never mind that the Reps have called a dozen plus votes and its the Dems stalling.

Total bull**** tactic by the Dems for leverage when they are out of power. They don't care how many people get screwed here out of their paychecks or are made less safe in the skies, they just care about raw naked power. They think the blue states staying blue somehow gave them a mandate and Schumer is trying dirty tricks to create a wedge issue before the mid-terms. **** them all to hell.

That's the real answer. It is one of the most epically corrupt in history. Trump's coming in on a wave of even popular support is one of the boldest efforts that has occurred to fight such a thing, but may be in vain. There has not been any accountability for the political and press class all century, not least because of that pairing--the press runs interference for the political swamp rather than being watchdog against it.

He has an easy workaround for government employees. All government employees considered essential are getting paid. All that are considered nonessential are a waste of money, eliminate the position. Our government is the biggest employer on the planet and its overinflated. Claw back overinflated budgets and pay the military. My gripe is how can you consider the active military nonessential is ludicrous and they are paying Congress and their staff

Bingo! The SC needs to rein in this individual judge trying to force the Executive to compensate for a shortcoming of Congress.

That's not how it works.

Congress needs to authorize the funds for SNAP. Until they do, there is no SNAP money.

If you're a Dem dependent on SNAP, tell your Dem senator to get off their ass and vote for the clean CR.
