The DoD won't be paid until the shutdown is over, but they will still work. So far as the VA, I worked there for over a decade and never had a shut down. They operate on different multiyear budget, so they are immune to the theatrics. I'm now with a different agency and it is looking like this will be my first time dealing with a shutdown. It couldn't have happened at worse time of the year as we are working on closing out the fiscal year.

I remember I was at the airport and the screeners were *****ing that they had to work and most other government employees were going to get paid and not have to work at all.

A lady at church works for USDA and has been thru several of these. She always overreacts and asks for prayers that she will be able to make it through the 'drought'. Every single time she gets time off of work but still gets paid for the time she missed.

My 10 year old has been waiting to visit the statue of liberty since she was 6. We have tickets booked for October 2nd and looking doubtful she will get to go up as we have planned for years with this shutdown. I know it is minute in the grand scheme of things, but just hate it for her.

Actually most banks that are popular with federal employees like USAA or Navy Federal credit unions usually provide 0% interest loans equal to your normal pay knowing that we will be able to pay it off once a new budget or CR is passed during shutdowns

I was thinking that was the case but too lazy to look it up.

The whole thing is just a pain in the arse and the only people screwed are the guy above and his daughter as long planned trips are ruined cause the Moose out front says "parks closed".

If the GOP is not a conservative party, then people need to quit calling it that so the low information voters don't continue their perpetual vote for those that dupe them. I'm a proud three time Trump voter, but this thought process is the exact tribalism that makes politics so shallow. There is no room for critical thinking if the goal is "party first" with no room for nuance. We left England to get away from this type of thinking.
