Really wish the black truck would have turned left and run the guy over. But in that situation it's instinct to get away and they may have had kids in the car or may not have fully known what was going on. Everyone likes to think they'd be the hero there but no one knows what they would really do in that situation.

Right on. You have to have a certain mental state to positively take action and end something like that. Relaxed alert would be fine, but shoppers usually don't have the predator awareness tape running in their heads and probably are subconsciously thinking about what adverse events face them if they should take action.
