Exactly right. Typical lead bullets are easily deformed through feeding, loading or simple handling. This can cause accuracy issues at long distances. Copper jackets help prevent that but copper is still not extremely hard or as hard as steel. These polymer tips slide easily, and do not deform when hit. They are truly designed as target rounds but also some are used in hunting rounds and self protection.

Yep. It's just a ballistic tip that when striking a barrier such as glass, wall, animal, etc - it will get chewed up by said barrier with limited penetration. A bonded round will over-penetrate those objects and will likely pass through 2 or more.

As to the "ballistic tip" that's marketing.

In rifle shooting terms, 'ballistic tips' help bullets stay in the air longer by reducing the effects of wind and gravity. 'Plastic tip' is a better way of putting it.

To get this back on topic but still relevant, we're talking about the same people that basically forced Winchester to stop making the Black Talon line simple because the bullet itself was black.
