Crazy to me they let it get that far then. Plenty of places to shoot it down. The pentagon rep on TV made it sound like they found it in Montana - said as soon as they were aware they secured sensitive material. Seems fishy all around.
Maybe now that it's been rendered useless we're tracking it to see where it goes and what they could possibly see for the next time they try with a better balloon? Or maybe what they saw when we missed a previous balloon?

Nukes are pretty heavy. It would take a large balloon to haul it up that high so it would be easy to spot. Any advantage for employing an EMP device by balloon escapes me

IIRC these sorts of balloons were also used in the Cold War by the US and the Soviet Union.
